Is it legal to change someone's eye color in the advanced rule set?

If so, are the methods of changing eye color that are *not* legal?

i would consider it legal, so long as you aren't making a new eyeball :)

Frankly I think the size of the eye would be part of it. But be safe and ask SC rather than gather educated guesses from members. I'd rather see an *official* response from an SC member.

Yes, absolutely legal, and not related to the size of the eye in any way, as long as you don't create new shapes (for example creating colored patterns, etc.)

From the advanced rules:
"You may saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry or any existing object within it."

Yep, legal, as long as you change the color of specific objects, and don't create arbitrary shapes of color.

But to change colours via saturation on the eyes only, wouldn't they need to be selectively done? I thought such selective editing at any level wasn't allowed, or am I mistaken?

You are mistaken, selective editing is only forbidden in minimal and basic editing.

Selective editing is legal in Advanced challenges. Not allowed in the Basic challenges.

Would it still be legal if I got a new layer, painted the color on top of the iris (and only the iris, being careful to stay in the lines) and then changed the blend mode? Instead of just playing with sliders and using a mask to show only the iris?

Yes, unless the blending mode creates new features (for example, if you add a glow or a drop shadow effect in the blending options).

What Christophe said. To add to that, remember that in Advanced, it's not how you do it, it's what you do. The method does not matter, the end result does. This is different than Basic, where how you do something has everything to do with whether it is legal.

Pimp those Eyes - A DPC Tutorial.

Next, if you want to adjust/improve the color of the eyes, use this method:

create dupe layer and change blending mode to Color
choose the lovely eye color you wish to have via paintbrush/pallet
paint over the iris with your new color choice
flatten layer

This process only changes the color portions of the eye and doesn't affect white or black - so your details & highlights are unchanged.
