My daughter went on a school trip to Florida today. The plane flew near my office at 2700 feet and 244mph.
I tracked the flight on an app found in the app store. I think it was about $4.00. I had my G12 with me and got lucky. Planes can take off in four directions so I was lucky it was pointed my way ! The photo is a 100% crop. I shared it on Facebook with the rest of the school so I made it somewhat presentable.

| Yikes, while that is cool and heartfelt for a father, as a security minded person I am scared that the "enemy" has info this readily available... |

Yep..I thought about that a few years ago when I tracked another family member's trip. I have to tell you, this app was pretty much right on.....at least for the first 5 minutes. When that app said it took off, it was only a minute or two before it was overhead....about 4 miles east.
I can track any flight on any airline with this thing. It shows speed, altitude, miles out, miles to go...etc....

it's ok leo they can also track who is tracking it so they know who to blame :) |

| That's cool and scary! So with a small amount of research I can probably find out which plane a celebrity or even some high profile individuals are flying on. WOW Pretty cool to track family though. |

There have been websites that track flights for years. It's not anything new. All of the information is published and readily available.

Yep. And unless the bad guys have some way of shooting it down, what's the worry? Actually, what's the worry anyway, why would they even care which plane they shot down? Aircraft are readily visible, so if they had the means to shoot one down, they would not require any means of tracking in order to do so.
