My mom gave me some perch that she caught, beheaded, gutted then froze in a water pak. Anyone know how to cook it? I'm pretty decent with fillets, but whole fish not so much. I should have asked her how to cook it, but didn't think of it at the time.

Hmmm...if it were fresh, I'd suggested grilling it, but as it's been frozen the flesh might be a little mushy. Wish I could be of more help :-/

Thanks. I think I'll just bake it with some onion and lemon. The way she freezes it, it doesn't get mushy, but it's too cold be to outside grilling.

Steaming is also a nice option!

I'd bread it lightly in flour and cornmeal, then panfry it...delicious.

And it's never too cold to grill...

I found this recipe at Epicurious
There are several good recipes at this site. I have it on my iPhone.
Hope it's helpful :)

This

Being from south Louisiana I can tell you that frying is the only way to go!! We clean the fish as you described and fry it whole. Bad thing about perch are the little bones though. Be careful when eating.

We always used to pan fry perch when we caught them. I vote pan fry...
