The leaves won't be pretty forever.

(Apologies in advance to those in latitudes less favorable to such a challenge.)

Apology accepted... I do still like to look at all the colors! :)

I live in prime foliage area, but this year the weather made them go straight from green to brown...

Great idea, but winter has almost started :(

Not much time left... Today would be grand: moisture saturation. Oh heck, maybe I can find some macro mash on the road.

I agree that it's a little late for most areas. Peak color has past in a lot of areas and at least here more than 50 percent of the trees are now bare. Some late bloomers are still holding on, but for landscapes it loses it's effect when you have so many barren trees mixed in with those still left with leaves.

Two suggestions. Make it a challenge with a date range starting say September 1st through November 1st and allow people to use the best shots that fell within that time period. Autumn is hard to predict and a difference of just a couple hundred miles (or less) could mean a big difference in fall colors and peak time.

Second suggestion to keep everyone happy is to have this same challenge in April/May (or whenever the leaves start to change) time frame so those living in the Southern Hemisphere can also participate during that time. That would be the fair thing to do. Some sit out now...some sit out later.

This should have been a 2 month long challenge, started mid september, so that everyone could have been involved.... =( Maybe we can do that next year?

NOTE: Replace question mark w/asterisk as keyboard is hosed...

Fall colors* Huh* We don't normally have that here and this year is the worst! We still have some sunburned leaves on the trees, but no color other than burned brown. The next step will be dead-on-the-ground brown. :~/

This could be taken care of if it were to run parallel to a spring flowers challenge. Or maybe just make it a foliage challenge, but it's too late here for the best of the new growth.

Damn. You folks might be right. The colors are mostly rust. I swear it happened overnight.

How about a chesseburger challenge then?
