I have a friend that makes a good living doing portraits, weddings and high school senior shoots and swears by Lightroom. So I was looking at the price and noticed that a student version is only $89 and that's in my price range. Does anyone here know if this version has any major differences than the full version that is more expensive?

I am pretty sure its exactly the same.

Here is another option for you if you want to purchase LR - I imagine it's upgradable as well.

We are also very pleased to announce that Adobe, our Photo Walk co-sponsor, is extending a money-saving discount to all Photo Walk participants for the purchase of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 software.

Beginning today through Wed., October 26th, you save $200 off Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 and pay only $99*.

To get this discount, please go to the online Adobe Store and use this unique code during checkout: 194AF51C

I don't know if you have to prove you went on the walk or not - I don't think it would matter all that much but I might be wrong. You can check it out though as I already have LR.

I'm sure this question has been asked a bajillion times, but can you use photoshop plug ins with Lightroom?

Depends on the plug-in... most are compatible. The catch is, if the plug-in uses layers in Ps, Lr does not support layers, so the plug-in will need to save an intermediate file, normally a TIFF. You can wind up with multiple intermediate files, not the most convenient thing.

Sounds good. I can deal with the intermediate file, my work flow isn't convenient anyway.

After I'm done in LR3 I move my photo's to PSE8 (Elements) and that is where I have all my plug-ins and they work fine (Topaz, SEP2, Neat Image) SEP2 is inside my LR3 as well...

I know it can be done, but I haven't gotten there yet but another reason I still use the PSE8 is for re-sizing...I'm hard to re-train...

LR is amazing with the cropping tool...I love the fluidity of it and I've really gotten to like the cloning tool...it really rocks...

photoshop plug-ins don't work directly inside LR, but as pointed out, you can go into PS from LR.

just click the export button and set your parameters. you have so much more control over the output in terms of size and quality. just play with it and you'll be comfortable in no time.

I don't have Photoshop though, just Paint Shop Pro XI. I had Photoshop, but it was bootlegged and kind of felt guilty about it. Then one day, I let it update automatically and was flooded with hundreds of browser windows. Had to reboot to safe mode and uninstall it.

they just came out with PSE10...I think $79...totally affordable (not even the student pricing)...and it packs a "punch" my friend...doesn't do it all but it sure has some power...

Sounds pretty cool. I'm using the Lightroom trial and other than feeling a little lost I'm loving it. I need to organize all my crap, and Lightroom looks like the perfect software to do it with. Thanks for all the help.

You need to specify a directory for your exported files. You can also specify max dim either way and max file size at max quality. But in spite of all that I use Mogrify plugin for LR Export which can also do borders.

Kent, I found a boat load of tutorial on YouTube for just about anything in LR3....probably another very useful tool in LR3 is the Lens Corrections....but be careful it's illegal in Basic...

Send me some links if you get a chance. I saw the lens correction, that would be very useful with my 10-20mm. I tried messing with it and made everything worse. I went ahead and bought LR3 today, so I'm sure 4 will come out tomorrow just because
