300-400 shots should cover most any challenge coming up within the users attention span. Viola! Legally dated image that no one can find a problem with.
You may want to also buy a new camera each time you do this, so that another image from the camera does not show up out of sequence as an entry.

There you have it! A simple if, impractical, expensive and time consuming way to achieve the perfect cheat.

Oh, and for the OP... If you routinely submit images from the same camera, as most of us do, the out of sequence numbering could well trip you up.

excellent idea!! assign date setup to half press button :)

spent a few hours using hex editors and diff in bash and the files are massively different at a hex level not sure if thats the tool you used or some editting etc

but only having two files and no reference i cant decide a third might help but its pretty hard there is no obvious signature to that i can see to say exif has been alerted but like i say there are massive difference at the hex level

Remember folks, the OP is trying to figure out a way HE can check photos for his contest to ensure date tampering has been done...he wasn't trying this for himself....er, at least at the beginning of the thread he wasn't, lol! So, whatever is used has to be something a non-techy person would use I'm guessing.
Now...no shady ideas, ok? :P

The simple solution would be to have everyone who wishes to enter a challenge post a "Challenge Competitor Form", filed at least a week before each challenge, before the challenge is announced.
Then a member of Langdon's army could come to each competitor's home and watch 24-7 while the challenge is open, until rollover for submissions, to make sure that all the images are shot within challenge dates, and processed within the rule set.

Or, we could just all be up front about the spirit of the DPC site, and not try to beat the system.

Not a bad idea. But with limited SC resources to assign one to each competitor, I would suggest opening a 'DPC Competition Center' in each Country and US state where competitors live.

That way it would only need one supervisor per center. You would not be allowed to leave the centre or communicate with the outside world until your shot is approved and submitted. Competitors supply their own bedding and food. Toilet facilities are on-site.

Before flaunting his aerial assault team out in the open like that, Langdon should remember that the insurgents have MANPADS like the FIM-92 Stinger.

One of my most fun experiences in the Marine Corps was the day I was tasked to provide Harrier pilots a training opportunity to practice avoidance manuevers while I shot "Inert Foam nerf football looking" stinger rounds at them using a modified Stinger.

They came in at low altitudes (maybe 50') with red mesh covers on the intakes and my squad and I would jump out of the bushes and fire on them.

It's all fun & games until they fire back.
