Anyone have this lens and can share some sample images? I was reading about it on DPReview forum and it looks like a great lens. Better than the kit lens for the 300D which isn't too shabby either.

How does this compare to the 19-35 variety?

I didn't think this lens worked on the 10D I thought it was 300D specific? I've been wrong many times before though!

It looks like same thing as Canon 18-55 EFS,F3.5-F5.6!
Why pay double for Sigma??

I'm sorry ,the Canon EFS lens doesn't fit on Canon 10d !

I know the Canon 18-55 kit lens doesn't fit on the 10D, but from what I've read from reviews, it is a respectable (not L quality ofcourse) lens and a pretty good bang for the $$$. I am just using this lens as a standard of what to expect if anyone has compared it to the new Sigma 18-50mm. I read that this 18-50 is built better than the Canon kit lens and the quality is slightly better too. Which leads me to wonder how it compares to the 19-35 Tokina or Tamron.

Also, the Sigma 18-50mm DC is selling for only $104 right now, you can pick it up at Delta International. I mean, if the lens does relatively well, and for landscape shots at WA, you really don't need wide open, then it's a pretty good bargain for 10D owners who don't have the option of using a 18-55 kit lens.

I hope someone can give some real world sample shots of this lens.

Also, I can't look at the Photosig pictures, not a member, can only see tiny tiny thumbnails. I wanna see full crops, best if side by side to other lenses.

My local camera store is trying to order one for me (not easy to get Sigma stuff here in Malaysia). Hope it will arrive some time this month, then I'll be posting samples.

Here are some sample pictures with that lens.

You may wish to know that this lens is sigmas equivalent to Canon's EFS lens. It is therefore not particularly high-quality. Personally I have only used it for about 20 pictures in the four months or so that I have had my camera. My other two lenses are my sigma 28-70, and my sigma 70-200 both at 2.8.
The main reason that I got this lens was that it is very wide angle, and I did not want to wait two days before being able to use my camera.

Having been somewhat negative, I consider the lens to be very good value for money. If you can live with the fact that it is not a fast lens, and you don't mind stopping down to F8 or so, I always use my flash at this f-stop, then it is as good as most other lenses. Another good feature is that it manages to focus down to about 6 in. not quite true macro, but quite good. With that I mean that it is better than most compacts if not all.

Edit: --

I forgot to mention that the aluminium foil shot was shot at F. 3.5 and was designed to show chromatic aberrations, so I included a 100% crop.
And I was somewhat uncreative in what I chose to take pictures of as you may have noticed.

Sounds perfect for my purposes. Since I'm going to take mostly landscape and cityscape with this lens, I will most likely stop it down past f8 to get more DOF. And at 100 bucks, it will be a great addition to my collection until I can get a really nice 14mm or 15mm fish. But those are almost 6 times the cost. Thanks for your mini-review and the pictures. I think your foil picture was out of focus, maybe the autofocus had trouble with the reflexive surface of the foil. The map focused great, looks sharp to me too.
