Does anyone know how to disassemble (and reassemble) a canon powershot G5? Google and youtube are giving me a lot of garbage.
It's a very old cam i bought at ebay for 50 dollars. Last time i used it was 6 months ago, kept it at the bottom pocket of my lowepro and totally forgot about it. Now it has fongus inside that i want to get rid of. For its ebay price, i think servicing will be more expensive than the camera itself.
Im going the DIY route. So far i have removed all screws that i can see. Managed to open the front housing. Removed a few more screws sorrounding the lens. Flipped some release levers. Still the damn lens wont come off.
Getting frustrated now.
Anyone know a link? Thanks.

| Best of luck. I'm waiting for a similar moment for my Fz10 Panny. I think all that is wrong is some bent communicating lens to brain. |

Ok so here's an update.
I finally managed to dissamble everything up to the sensor assembly. A big chunk of fungus is resting on the surface of a really clean glass on top of what looks like the sensor itself. The diy diagram i refered to calls it a hot plate(?). Its the one that you replace with something else for IR conversion.
So i got it cleaned up and put everything back. Turned it on. Clicked here and there. The image looks good. But.... Some buttons are not functioning. Hehehehe. Im beginning to think a connection to the brain is also my problem now.
Dissambled everything again. Snapped those microscopic cable buses as snug fit as i could, but to no avail. I think somewhere in my diy process, i snapped broken one of those tiny little wires.
Oh well.. Some things are really best left to the professionals. but at least i got the fungus cleaned up :)
Bye bye, $50 cam.... It looks good on display inside my cabinet :)

| Good for you for trying. Still waiting for more nerve. By the way, I bunged up a ricoh slr lens when I went to remove a pin so I could use it on the Pentax DSLR. It's stuck at wide open, f1.7, so I guess I'll do a series. |
