Three minutes on the nose, check it out:
Amazing Bed Race 2011 <-- watch in HD

I also have a copyright question. After upload to YouTube, it was flagged with "Matched third party content." I'm still allowed to use it as it's not WMG. The background was vocals sung by a local group, who gave me permission to use them. But the lyrics are from an Annie Lennox song. Is it fair use?

Anybody?

No, not fair use. As it happens, I just got the Youtube partner invite today, and part of the TOS gave examples of "fair use" and "not fair use". You (or anyone) singing the copyrighted lyrics of a third party without expressed written consent violates the TOS. (A group singing someone else's song was actually the example they used to illustrate "not fair use".)

Is there any streamlined, reasonable way to get that expressed written consent? Seems like a lot of content is going to disappear without some sort of consent-brokering mechanism.

Anything under 90 years old (I think it's 90 years, something like that. 50 is the standard, but copyright holders can renew at that point) is not considered fair use. You have to have written consent from the party that holds the copyright to whatever music you use. Likely, Annie's label, in your case. You could try researching who specifically owns that song, and then contact them. A lot of times, getting consent is really just a matter of paying royalties for use. Sometimes it's relatively inexpensive...and sometimes it's a whopper. Even when I perform in venues, I always have to make sure they are licensed for me to sing other people's music.

Music is really just a product, just like your photography. If someone posted a video on youtube with your photographs and (either they or Youtube) made money off of it, wouldn't you want a cut and to be credited? (Or what if they put one of your photos on their website? =P )

You might also just try looking at independent artists in the same style and see if any of them will grant you permissions to use one of their songs. A lot of times they are eager to get the exposure.

My two cents. =)

It is a very entertaining video though!

I think YouTube has agreements with most record labels. So it's OK to post up original music on videos, but not on any "monetized" videos. The record label, WMG, I think, is an exception. WMG doesn't allow any of their music on YouTube. Also, some music is allowed to be played on YouTube in some countries, but not others. When files are uploaded, they are scanned for similarity and silenced if they infringe. I suppose they will eventually have visual scanning to block logos like the Nike Swish.

Another copyright Q...

The band in the video sings for profit at events, but they sing copyrighted lyrics. Is that legal? I've seen plenty of cover bands at bars too.

Bah, it's a terrible channel. I have four videos, all dumb. The mushroom one is particularly bad, since I knew squat about them last year and show my ignorance. (I now know squat plus one.) God knows why I got the partner e-mail. Here's to making fifty cents in a year! Anyway, here it is.

You just need to get Sigourney Weaver to narrate your videos, Louis.

Very cool video! Ironically I just stumbled on a GoPro display at BestBuy today, and I was thinking, I NEED one of these! The possibilities seem endless, from underwater, to kites, and on and on.

One of my plans is to make first person view videos while chainsaw carving. I'm still trying to figure out how to do the really nice slow motion I've seen done with GoPros, without buying a $1,000+ piece of software.... and/or a Mac computer.

High def and super slow motion in a compact camera. I bought my Samsung WB2000 because it does super slow motion, but found out the quality is CRAP. So after watching GoPro videos for months, I bought one so I could do slow mo stuff. But now I find out the way they do it is with thousands of dollars worth of software on Macs.... meh.

I've tried a couple of ideas, but my $60 software can't do it. I need to do some more research.

I really can't justify buying a Mac and thousands of dollars of software. The wife might finally throw me out.
