This little guy was out on my patio last night. It was a bit chilly, plus I was afraid the pugs might make a snack out of him, so I brought him in and let him sleep with the tortoises. This morning I set him outside and took a couple photos before he hopped off on his merry way.

If he was in Australia he would be called a Cane toad. He certainly wouldn't be brought inside nor set free...instead he would be given the royal treatment of a Dettol shower and then a game of golf...where he starred as the ball and the object of the game would be to see who landed him in front of a car. Grrrrrr.....I hate toads...!!!

...Well, considering how poisonous they are and the amount of damage they have inflicted on the local critters in OZ, I can certainly understand your disdain for them.
Beetle was kind enough to educate me on the havoc these Cane toads create...I can understand why you would want to exterminate them.

When they have been known to grow as much as a 2 litre bottle of Coke and they are spreading right across the country they are bad news.

The cane toads LOVED the January floods. They breed in any sort of water, and had countless spots to choose from.
We had thousands in the park just behind our house, and now that it is spring, when it gets dark I'm walking the dog with a bottle of Dettol again :-(
(For our US friends: Dettol is an antiseptic cleaner that kills them within seconds)
Linda, I sure would prefer YOUR type of toad any day - he almost looks cute in that ugly sort of way. |

...if it was a cane toad, licking it would prove fatal.

this is not a cane toad, just a cute little (about 1 1/5 inches long) ordinary Michigan toad. He's totally harmless and eats the bugs at night. I've never licked one myself, but one of the pugs did once and foamed at the mouth a bit. lol |

LOL, our Shih-tzu picked one up a couple weeks ago, and promptly spat him out... too late, in seconds he was foaming so bad, he looked like a little Santa Claus! None the worse for wear though.

Now I feel left out... my dog has never foamed at the mouth because of a toad, and I don't walk my dog while carrying toad spray....
Wait!!! I did find a 5 legged toad in my backyard once!! it was pretty funky... |
