I'm getting pretty keen on buying a Canon EOS 60D, but the local price - $1890AUD with 28-200 lens, seems high compared to prices on the net. However if I bought elsewhere and had hassles it might all get too hard. I still have a couple of other local shops to try but don't expect much difference. Our dollar is still high (about $1.o5 US) and I feel the need to buy soonish in case it drops drastically and increases the price (further) out of reach. My daughter buys all sorts of stuff off the net and thinks I'm mad to even contemplate buying locally, but I don't think I want something from Singapore with the English manual only on CD. Thoughts?

How much are you gonna save? That's key...

I bought my S95 locally, but the price difference was really only tax, and I would still have bought online if possible, but I was leaving the next day and wanted a carry-camera.

As for your situation? Online for sure I think - the only way I would consider buying locally is if they really helped you make your decision, if you used their services to help you make your decision, then you might want to consider buying locally.

I thought the manuals come on CDs these days anyway. The printed copy is usually Quick Reference. Most purchases these days are from Hong Kong, not Singapore. I bought most of my gear from Hong Kong via eBay and very happy so far, savings - 30 to 50%.

Thanks everyone. Yes, the savings look significant, so I might go that route. Has anyone ever needed to have there cameras returned for service? How big an issue is the possibility that something will go wrong?

Not very big at all, and you DO have a warranty of course. Don't worry about it.

I find it SO AGGRAVATING that the Canadian dollar is worth MORE then the US dollar... for a long time now, and yet everything in Canada costs 20% to 50% MORE than in the US!

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

That's how you pay for that universal health care, I suppose? Isn't it worth it?

The truth of it is, as it seems to me, Americans simply do not accept the reality. Since the USA is the alpha dog of planet earth, the rest of us take it up the arse for their joy.

Being a dual citizen by birth... American/Canadian... I often complain to the wife about how much Canada sucks, and how we should head south, but she's just so nailed down to family, and me to real beer...

You have to come to Australia for real beer.

...No offense, but I have had some of your beer and it pales by comparison to a myriad of other beers.

I'm with you on that, I lived there for 6 years and whenever possible drank European imported beer.

Ha! I was joking. I don't even drink beer.

Since we're talking about beer here.....

IMO? I've just found a new favorite. Black Butte Porter XXIII

I remember the day I ordered a bottle of Lowenbrau Dark and I thought it tasted "funny" ... which was when I found out that the 400 year old brewery had ceased importation, and instead had licensed production of the stock destined for the US to the Miller facility in Azuza, CA ... :-(
