I recently got a new adapter for the D60 to do eye piece projection astrophotography on my Meade LX-90 8" telescope.
ScopeTronics MaxView DSLR II Adapter

This adapter is huge, but it will allow 2" eyepieces.

I get set up last night to shoot the moon and Jupiter. I set the adapter up to use a 32mm eyepiece with the camera, mind you this is a low power eyepiece normally.
I try to get the focus correct and wonder whats wrong, then all of a sudden the moon come into focus and I cant believe it, this normally low power eyepiece which will show the entire moon in the field of view with room to spare, is now acting like my 15 or 12mm eyepiece and all I can see in the view finder is just a small area of the moon
(no cropping just resized to 800x531)

I have a hard time getting the focus just right, but snapped a few photos any way. Then I realized I left the doubler on (duh...) the adapter

Then I put in my 40mm eyepiece with out the doubler and I get this shot (no cropping just resized to 800x531)

still a lot of power as I am normally getting shots like this with just doing prime focus where I can see the entire moon.

and I dont have the problems focusing like I did last night with the new adapter.

I probably need to Collimate my scope to help on my scope since I have noticed its harder to achieve focus lately

the shots of Jupiter came out well horrible as the focsing issue really shows up on that.

whoa! Nice shots! At focal length were they taken? I'm still waitng to get a camera mount for my telescope which, incidently, I brought exclusively for fotography. :(

those are awesome! Thanks for sharing that. I order a telescope for my kids. Should be here in the next couple of weeks.

Rooster, my scope has a 2000mm focal length so the first shot I posted is probablly something comparable to around 125 to 140x on my scope.

Sonja, good luck with the telescope, it can be a LOT of fun if you dont let it frustrate you

Fun shots, James! I'd really like to get into this stuff. My father has a telescope he never uses. In my opinion, it has too many bells and whistles--all kinds of computerized stuff. I think it even moves with the stars, and you can enter in various stars and other objects and it will automatically take you there, but you have triangulate your position, first. I spent a couple of hours with it last year, but this year perhaps I'll get it going. If I do, maybe I'll get some cool tools like you!
