Since the problem of a malware infected computer comes up pretty much every week on this forum, and there's that saying about an ounce of prevention...
Pretty good guide to protecting your computer from Maximum PC mag. It does not cover everything that I do, but then, everyone you ask will have a different opinion on what to use and do. Following these suggestions will get some good protection in place, though.

*sigh* Someone always tosses the "get a mac" line out there.
A)My Mac is an obsolete 400Mhz G4 on a shelf in the garage.
B)Macs are not as invulnerable as you may prefer to think. In many ways Macs are at greater risk of malware and scams because their owners have been conditioned to believe the platform is invulerable.
But I really didn't want to start a Mac vs Windows thread. It's a dead horse topic.

100% correct. People who don't take proper precautions are the ones who get screwed. I've been working in IT for years and have had to deal with both Macs and PC's. It doesn't matter what platform your on anymore.
Maintain your Antivirus software, Be cautious about scams and other type emails/sites, Backup your files And use common sense.
Spiff, thanks for not going there with the mac vs windows because everyone knows linux is the way to go :) |
