Depends.... but 90% of the time - spot focus point... single point BUT I move the point around so do not focus-recompose (took me a LONG time to stop what I think is a bad habit... it started years ago on film bodies that had a single horizontal AF point in the middle). On the 7D I have it set by default to different point for portrait vs landscape but still spot. |

It really depend on the situation ...
Most of the time it's just auto-focus using the center spot, sometimes recomposing if necessary.
For a lot of macros (especially with the additional close-up lens) I'll use manual focus.
For wildlife and sports/action shots I usually figure the action will be pretty far away so I'll just pre-focus at infinity, either with auto- or manual focus, or sometimes at the point I think the action will take place (like a base to which a runner is advancing). |

Go to the last screen in your menu, there you will find custom functions. You want function #4. Im not sure what the options are with the 5II, but I use the third choice to lock the AF with the * button. I never though of doing it till Bear shamed me into trying it, now it seems like the only logical choice (when not shooting critters or sports) |
