Cory, I didn't read the thread but don't break your shutter. You may break something else along with it and then it'll cost you a lot more. Just ask them to replace it. I used to work for a camera shop and had lots of pros ask to replace their shutter curtains and such even if they weren't broken.

You should be worried that they won't replace it and say they did. I've had it happen to me for other products. If I were you I would use a marker and put a small dot on the shutter curtain. Use a black marker and it should be barely noticeable but still keep everything working. Then you will know if they replaced it or not.
