Canon rebates

Rebates like this usually come immediately before the announcement of new and improved stuff. (In time for the Xmas shopping season.) My camera body has more than (mean time to failure) shutter actuations for a classic 5D. I skipped the last upgrade opportunity. I think I'll step up to what may be a quantum leap in technology. I'm especially interested in a more modern processor(s) which offer better noise management at higher ISO speeds.

In the last 5 years, I've grown into the capabilities of my current equipment. I'm ready to refresh. Needless to say, there exists no new equipment which will improve my scores at DPC. For that, I'd need a creativity transplant.

Yeah but when the retailers magically raise prices to almost match the "rebate"... what do you call it

Oh yeah I remember.... collusion? gouging?? corruption? Something like that...

Hey hahn, would you mind explaining mean shutter actuations to me? Cause I am a good 20,000 shots over the xti's average actuations. Does the camera just randomly die after you hit the shutter a certain amount of times?

I definitely wish I had the money to upgrade. It took me long enough, but I have finally completely grown into this camera and there aren't any major new things for me to learn with it.

Well they missed by one day for me...I was considering the Canon P&S's like the G12 and S95 (and even the SX230, which has a wonderful new sensor with great low light performance for a tiny one), but yesterday I got tired of thinking about it and ordered a Panasonic Lumix LX5. Mainly it wasn't price, though the G12, which would have been my next choice, is way overpriced (you can buy a micro 4/3's for that price). Even the LX-5 is a overpriced--but hey, it's a Leica lens for $400.

The SX230 is still tempting...maybe I should carry two pocket P&Ss one for wide, and one for telephoto. I do have two pockets!

I haven't played with the SX230, but I will get a chance to... my son just bought one. I'll have to grab it for a test run. Hmmm, need to do that in the next week or so, he heads back to college in less than 2 weeks!
