I'm going to be the voice of dissent here. It does not say if she was contracted by the school, or if these were independent clients in her studio. If the former, the school contracted with her to take photos, not pass moral judgment. If the latter, she is within her rights to do or refuse to do business with whomever she chooses.

The article sounded like these were private appointments.

I cancel shoots or refuse to book shoots all the time for "ugly" people. Never thought it made me morally upstanding. I just don't like drama.

The "ugly" people being referred to are ugly inside; nasty, mean, spiteful, bullying, like that.

Yeah but what about the impact of the decision.... rumors can get out of control in a school and in some cases more so the up tight parents (I see it a lot at my kids school... and some parents are worse then the kids) and something like I won't take your pic if your ugly will lose the subtly in the rumor.... It's a poor business decision IMO.

Assuming this was not related to a schools photo gig then it's her right to not do business with whoever (some exceptions I assume) but it could wipe out a small business.

Purely from a business perspective, I feel it was a poor decision. As robs has said, "I don't photograph ugly people" will be a quote she comes to regret - context is everything. From a potential client's perspective, the idea that their lives will be searched out on the net, and judgement passed is somewhat uncomfortable at best.

Agree with Clive - unbelievable hypocrisy from the Daily Mail!

Run-of-the-mill hypocrisy from the Daily Mail I'd have thought. UK establishment paparazzi.

Because, as an editorial whole, the Daily Mail is renowned in the UK for being the most vitriolic, vicious and, in keeping with the idea in the article, 'ugliest' of newspapers. This piece, being printed yesterday would have sat next to a particularly nasty diatribe against 'fat single mothers'. Single mothers are their bug bear at the moment so it gives other minorities a bit of a breather. They'll be back onto gypsies or homosexuals next week i'm sure. Or cancer. They love cancer.
