Hi, Im currently looking at this site www.bestpricephoto.comand thinking of purchasing something. Im from Australia and never heard of it before, I just stumbled upon it. I have tried to phone the site but offices closed for weekend.Has anyone here at DPC purchased from this site before or heard any good or bad about it. they have a sale which ends soon so I wont be able to get in touch with the business before the sale is over. Just trying to make sure they are legit. |

Read through several review sites and can't seem to find a bad review or one that hasn't been changed from bad to good..... |

I usually check Reseller Ratings, and they give BPP a very decent rating. I have no fitrst-hand experience withg them, but at least they don't seem to be a scam site.

What are you looking to buy? I am in Melbourne. I buy most of my photo gear in Hong Kong via eBay. It is the cheapest I could find and so far no problems at all. I usually pick the ones with good track record for more expensive items, I am not that fussy about items under $10. Another big advantage over US shops is that shipping is usually free and I have been quoted up to $100 for postage from the US. |

Im wanting to get a canon 7d, I havent looked on ebay as my origional plan was to buy it in Las Vegas next month when we go over what with the $ being so good. Have been looking at the camera shops that are in Vegas for pricing but just happened to stumble on BPP site which sells for cheaper than stores, thought it might be better just getting it on line before I go. Are the Hong kong canon cameras Made in Japan?? And now thinking about it some more wondering if I will then get hit with duty when it arrives? I will have to do a little more research I think.
bear_musicI read through those ratings and all does seem ok however I looked at BH photo video as kenskidsuggested and I actually think Im much more comfortable purchasing from them as I know they have a good reputation.
Its just that BPP had the 7d for $1339 and was cheaper by almost $400 to what else I had seen, but on closer inspection I think this may be grey market product perhaps and I dont I want to go there. I will just have to wait till monday I guess and check out what customs say about stamp duty to see whether its worth it or not. Maybe I just need to be a little more patient. Thanks for all your imput guys. |

Unfortunately you will need to pay 10% GST plus ~$150 Customs duty as it is over $1000. So far everything I bought was below this figure so that made it OK. I think BH also offers grey imports, they have different prices for that. Have a look at their listings. All Canon DSLRs are made in Japan, some lenses are made elsewhere e.g. my 15-85 was made in Thailand. Still the quality was OK.
I just checked eBay:
//www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-Canon-EOS-7D-Body-stock-/170672516337
I bought from them before. There are some others slightly cheaper but I have no experience with them.
$US1339 = $AUD1293 today (exchange rate is bouncing a lot at the moment) so that's the best price but you have also to consider shipping and credit card exchange fee. My ANZ Visa takes a whopping 4% for any foreign exchange transaction. I have also 28 Degrees MasterCard which charges 0% exchange fees. I use it for all my purchases in foreign currencies and for travel. It saves quite a bit of money. |

Thanks for the info Margaret. The more Im finding out about getting it on line from US, the costs add up so doesnt really seem worth it in end. I notice on the site you gave me they say No hidden costs to Aust. Im going to contact them and see if that means stamp dutys ect.. this would make this a good buy, cheaper than buying in US at camera shop. im also going to check out that 28 degrees Mastercard, never heard of before but would be handy as we purchase OS a lot. Very informative thanks again. |

This is my first post, but I been lurking around a while :)
I highly advise you not to buy from this company. I checked into their history and it seems that they advertise using bait and switch tactices and try to sell you items that should come with the product.
Look into bestpricecameras.com - I think they're the same company just under a different name. |
