OKay so I just saw this posting on facebook from a photography site i "liked" discussing who sends their photos else where to be edited???? what??? thats crazy??? someone please explain this to me. While i understand it give photogs more time for "themselves" when i hire someone to do a job any job and i'm paying you for it I expect it to be your work not work you turn around and pay someone else to do.. next - if anyone here does this, can you explain it to me maybe i am misunderstanding how and what it actually is. |

Well, some online printing services (e.g. Kodak Gallery) offer professional color-correction services. I myself sent this picture to Bear_music for some final color and tone enhancements -- I have a form of red-green color-blindness, and sometimes have trouble getting things to look "quite right" or the best they can ...
ScanCafe has a service where you send them a box of prints/slides/negatives and they send you back hi-res retouched scans.
Many famous photographers and painters have/had assistants who would do some of the actual work ... |

I lot of the wedding and portrait photographers I know ship out their files to retouchers. It's probably unsurprising to note that most of them are over the age of 60 and so were originally film people who not only originally had their film developed and printed by people other than themselves, but were also rather old by the time PhotoShop came and they never got around to learning it.
If you scan the pages of photography magazines like Rangefinder, there are a bunch of ads for professional retouching services. |

I've seen some pros who only take the pictures and let others do the editing. These are the people getting assignments from magazines so it isn't a solo thing from the get go since they're already producing someone else's vision.
