Saw this on a M4/3 forum that I follow.
WARNING: Equipment buffs will cringe!

Ooh, that does make me cringe. Mainly because you worry that everybody is going to throw their hands up and say, "it wasn't me!" and you are left with a piece of road kill... |

Sheesh, what did they do, run it over with the truck? |

I read through the thread, the general consensus is that it was run over by something in the shipping warehouse. Some henkiness in the tracking where the shipment went back and forth a bit. Plus the bar code was ripped off the original box and placed on an undamaged box. The buyer said the outer box looked new and the crushed packaging was inside the newer box.
He said the UPS guy left the box, rang the bell and was driving off as he answered the door. Since he didn't notice the damage in front of the driver, UPS is dragging him through the red tape, making the sender file the claim, etc.
Plus, this camera is no longer available so they are disputing the value.
It's all bad.

That's normal. UPS, FedEx, and USPS all do that. They leave package on porch, ring bell, and take off. I rarely sign for anything.
I feel for the guy. Nothing like waiting for your nice new camera to arrive and when it does BAM, you open the package to see that mess. |

What? This is normal for UPS.... However, at least in Miami, FedEx seems to do much better, much much better... |

UPS will leave the package on my door without a signature, but FedEx won't. |

I therefore conclude Chuck Norris works for UPS. |

Ha ! I've had over $8000 worth of camera equipment and other electronics shipped by UPS over the last 6 years from every corner of the US and some world locations and have never received a ding, dent, crack, indentation, or any other damage. Hell, I don't think I even had a box that was dented !
Oh well...now that I jinxed myself, I'll have to get my next item from the local camera store !!!! |

The worst is UPS Ground.... Had them leave one package down the road cause our dog was barking... shame we don't own a dog
UPS often has dented and hit boxes but most places I buy from over pack for that reason. |

UPS is terrible around here. They do the "ring and run" routine all the time. Got a large box once that didn't even resemble a box by the time it arrived!! We've also had UPS not deliver for days, even though the package was in town, because it was heavy!! I don't use UPS anymore unless I have to. AND...for the record...I do have to sign for FedEx here, but they won't deliver on certain days as they "contract out the deliveries" and some of these places don't work on certain days! This is freakin' Dallas, TX people...not some backwoods farm in the forest of northern Minnesota! |

I thought DHL was the worst of the worst but after reading this thread.... UPS is out too! UPS always have some surcharges too. USPS mostly do not, never knew why.
I use USPS from the US and Canada Post for deliveries worldwide. |

My best UPS story is finding a box in my garage which contained my intended item (a butterfly net), but the box also contained a box of ammunition intended for the police. Because my box had very little in it, but was big, the other box had been placed on top and fallen through. The butterfly box had been retaped, but they didn't bother to notice the 50 pounds of bullets...

Ok, I have to bite on this, its just too interesting, what did you do with the ammo? If you called the police, were they rightfully appreciative of your civic pride and duty or suspicious and questioning? Seems the "safe and easy" thing would be to do nothing and see if anyone comes to look. Rather sad I would be hesitant to call the cops, would seem the best course of action, but also the opening scene of too many intrigue and corruption based thrillers...
edit to add: I received a box taped up from UPS after being speared by a forklift.

I called the police. They sent a black and white to pick it up right away and were very appreciative. The box clearly had a label addressed to the Eugene Police Dept. I was very confused at first as to how it got into my box (because it was retaped), but I eventually figured it out. |

Well, Doc is a confessed ladybug killer, and they were killed for photo set up.
But the photo did win a blue ribbon in a free study, so it's all OK.
