The problem is that islam has not gone through a reformation. The irony is that her own culture makes her cover her face in public- let's men tell her to cover up, not god or Allah, but man yet a western man, cant take a picture. That is how bullshit religion is, and that is how utterly bullshit it is for a woman to allow herself to be oppressed in that way, in modern society.

it is impossible to have multicultural society if there is one culture that demands more rights than any other...

Why would police want to file a report on an assault when nobody was hurt? Many of you have decided this was about religion because the writer led you to that conclusion. Writers are tricky like that. You simply don't know the motivations of the police, nor do you have any perspective on the event itself but the writer's.

How hurt someone has to be so it is an assault?

lets forget about this article for a minute.

Did You know crime in Detroit went down by a huge % in a last couple years? Do you know how? because if police does not file report, it makes them look better... I'm not making this up. Someone busted my car's window over night, I called the cops and the answer was " well, it happens" case closed...as far as they care.
its simple. no report...less paper work, and makes them look better.
( However, I do think Toronto police could be less corrupt than Detroit's)

nobody hurt? I guess. Or maybe I took the word of a fellow dpc'er and photographer. It's tribal peoples, not Canadians who claimed their soul is stolen by a photograph. Man or woman, Muslim or athiest, still its a lousy thing to happen in a modern democracy.

Ah, you've tipped your hand. Muslims do not believe their soul is stolen by a photograph.

It is I who believe that my soul is stolen by a photograph.

I'm not exactly anti Muslim, any more than anti religious in general, its just that a religion that makes its women's wear costumes to cover themselves, blames the victim for rape, etc. Is an even easier Target than foolish rapture loving right wing bible belt Christians.

By the way, I'm not ignorant in the least, I'm progressive and don't like fox news, Glenn beck or any conservative anything. I just think a mob if people going after a photographer is bullshit, just because you make it a Muslim woman and crowd, doesn't make it any less stupid.

I guess I was naive to assume people could rationally discuss this with ad hominem attacks and actually sticking to the point.

I copy/pasted the title from the link I followed to the Sun article as it was more descriptive in a universal way, while the Sun title was very local and didn't mention photography. I do realize many people carry a big religious chip on their shoulder. I could care less as to whether it's Muslim or Christian. I'm not religious at all, and view any and all religions as equally rediculous.

The Sun is a major Toronto paper. Things such as kettling, assault, and creating secret, fake rules in order to detain people at the recent G20 seems to be carrying over to every day.

Just before I posted this, I read a follow-up story about a man who's apartment was mistakenly raided by police as a drug-op. They had the wrong address. The man is old and frail. They cuffed, and beat him. Broke a few ribs, damaged a vertebra, damaged his face. He took the officer to court. The officer's police buddies covered for him and he was let off.

Judge clears cop, smells coverup

I don't care if you worship the Easter Bunny or the Eiffel Tower. I do care if my home is mistakenly broken into and I'm assaulted by people I pay through taxes. I feel this is the way things are heading.

But yeah, I admit I suckered you in with religion. That's your problem. :-P

See, I told everyone that the people in Toronto need a good slap upside the head :-)

As for the other stuff. Shrug. I never just snap pictures of people for the sake of getting pictures. If you want a picture, pay me.
