Ok, here i go.
I would mainly like to know which one you prefer, i am mostly using it for normal editing, so if either one is considerably faster, that would be good. (i am pretty sure that was bad grammar, using four commas in one sentence:/ )
- Easy to use
- good plug-ins
- raw editing? i think i am an idiot, i shoot in raw and have no idea if im editing in it or not or even what?
OR:
If you dont prefer either of these and wish to shed the light on the new magical photo software in all of life!
Thanks! nicky |

| I'm a Lr user, have never used Aperture, but from most of the comparative reviews, I think your choice comes down to a matter of preference. I do believe that Aperture is less expensive, though. You can try Lr for 30 days free, and you may be able to do the same with Aperture. |

I have both, but haven't made much use of Lr at all (it came in a bundle deal with CS5). Aperture 3 is very good (I was so-so on Aperture 2). Both will handle RAW files directly. As noted already, you can do the free trials. If you have Snow Leopard or later on your mac, then you have the mac app store, where Aperture 3 is now around 75-80 bucks, I think.
I find the nik suite of plugins to be very useful, and you can get them to support Aperture, Lr, and PS directly. You can then open them from within Aperture (or the others). You can also open Photoshop from within Aperture if you like.
I can't directly contrast and compare Aperture 3 and Lr, but I can say that I have been using Aperture for years now. I really like it, and don't feel any need to go looking around for what Lr might offer.
Aperture does seamlessly integrate with mobile me, mail, etc., and you can create books in the same fashion as with iPhoto. Many online book sources offer plugins so that you can create books with them directly in Aperture. I am not sure if Lr will let you directly email an image from within the tool or not, nor do I know about the book plugins for it.

I happen to have the ability to get either for free, as some of myt friends and their parents own them. So this is not based on price, but how good they are ;)
Thanks for your time and the reviews already written! |

| Take Darktable and help the open source community (to find some of the multiples bugs in it). |

Another Aperture user (and fan). I keep trying LR, but so far have not found it to suit me. I guess I prefer the user interface of Aperture plus the book creation.
I think both LR and Aperture do what they are intended to do very well. As Kirbic says it's just a matter of personal preference. There are a couple of features missing in Aperture that are available in LR, such as lens distortion correction, but there is a nifty little plugin (around $30) called PT Lens correction which works with Aperture, so I don't find that to be limiting.
Photomatix, the Nik Suite, Topaz filters all work with Aperture. I find these days that I use Photoshop less and less (mainly for layer work). Give them both a go and see which you prefer. |

Aperture 3.1.3 works exceptionally well with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. The full screen mode is wonderful. Like salmiakki said, the NikSoftware plugins, Topaz, PTLens and Photomatix run well. I especially like the Aperture Library and Vault system for redundant file storage. I just created a new Library for the second half of 2011. It's easy to switch to older libraries. |

PT Lens is a *great* tool. I used to use it, prior to Lr implementing its own correction, and I loved it. Of course at the time I bought it, it was $5! It's still a very good value at the current price. |
