It's tragic not only because of her death but because she had a lot of choices about what her short life could have been.
In an interview in 2008, her mother Janis said she would be unsurprised if her daughter died before her time.
She said: 'I've known for a long time that my daughter has problems. But seeing it on screen rammed it home. I realise my daughter could be dead within the year. We're watching her kill herself, slowly.
'I've already come to terms with her dead. I've steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road.
'I look at Heath Ledger and Britney. She's on their path. It's like watching a car crash - this person throwing all these gifts away.'

Stupid coke addicted bitch with a bad attitude
But yes it's sad. Any needless death is sad. But death itself is also a release.

There's children dying in Africa from war and famine and they had no choices at all. |

This is so sad and there is a real need for the world to do something. But, I am always surprised to learn it is only children dying, obviously the adults are doing okay?? Dragging out the sympathy vote as the TV News does should generate money for aid, but many are now aware that the money raised does not help those who need it, but buys new aircraft/cars/etc for those in charge.
ADDED! This is a post about Amy Winehouse, who for all her problems with drugs and booze, was a superb singer. I guess life gives talent, but it only has a short shelf life?

How unfortunate that some people just cannot cope and find that death or drugs are the best way to deal. Life has much to offer, but it's all in how you look at things I guess. There have been signs that things were bad for years. Sad. |

No, not like this Rorschach. This comes across as rude agressive and cold.. true or not, this isn't going to win you friends or get responses. |

No, completely irrelevant here, OT. These posts could almost be classified as trolling. |

It is always sad when someone with so much talent self destructs, and the irony of her writing her own epitaph with "Rehab" is touching. That said, all my sympathy for the week is taken up with the blameless children of Utoya. Winehouse ended up at the only possible destination of her path. |

Wwell I am sorry if it comes across like that. Not meant to as I am not cold and unfeeling. In fact I feel very sad about it and it completely ruined my evening. That's why I decided to take my ole friend Jack out of the cupboard. |

Who is to say that the events in Norway did not upset Amy and that she decided to get out her old friend heroin for comfort?
We are all human beings, living tends to be a series of trials and obstacles. I don't think its every really easy.
The luckier ones have different problems and concerns than the very unlucky. But everyone looses sleep at night some times. |

Once you get hooked on those drugs, it's hard to kick. Some people can kick it and some can't. My mom died at 59 years old hooked on tobacco. She simply COULD NOT QUIT. Two other family members were able to quit. Some people are doomed once they get drugs in their system.
She was a great singer that actually sounded a little different than all of the stuff coming out now days. It is truly sad that this girl could not kick the drugs...I for one will pray for her just as I pray for the children dying in Africa.

It makes me wonder why some of our greatest artists are so troubled. They must have a heightened sense of feeling the world's pain, that comes across in their art. We love their art because it brings us a taste of genuine emotion, emotion that must be boiling inside of them. Yes, her self destruction was predictable, but I wonder if she was rehabilitated enough to be numb to the pain of the world, would she still be able to create great art? |

Read up on her life and her daddy. You'll understand why this person is dead.
