Yesterday I saw a thread about spamming by PhoTournament's webmaster (who was a member of DPC, //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=80155). I got curious and checked the site out. It looked interesting so I applied for a free membership as a judge. Got a reply stating that they would need to see some of my work so I posted my profile here at DPC along with my own site.

Later on I got a reply that refused my request based on the fact that the admin had been kicked off DPC for spamming! ("I feel ethically compelled to refuse your membership")I really can't see the logic in refusing my request based on what happened to his account at DPC, I would think since he has been kicked of DPC he would like to have more members at his site. I'm not sure I would want to be a part of a site that has this kind of webmaster, seems silly to me.

Does anybody here understand his logic, or is he just pissed of by this whole matter?

I deceided on posting his whole reply:

"Dear Haraldur,

life is a funny thing.
It's particularly funny that you just applied as a member on PT mentioning DPC.

In fact, I have been a DPC registered user myself until today (!) when they cancelled my membership with the false reason of spamming their members.

Considering what happened, I feel ethically compelled to refuse your membership both as a judge and as a challenger, regarless the fact that I would have liked to have you judging on PT.

On DPC they have starting believing that they "own" you and, for a while, I want to let them to believe that. Maybe one day it will be not me but their own members to remember them who owns who. Or, at least, this is what I like to think.

Sorry for having had to reject your application, but I hope you will understand my reasons and the fact that they have nothing to do with your person.

And sincere congrats for you nice photography.

Kind Regards

Antonio De Donatis
Webmaster of PhoTournament"

To me this is just an immature reaction of a pissed-off person, no logic, childish behavious. If he wants to run his site with that attitude I would not want to have anything to do with it.

Sorry, no logic there. Stop looking.

It's funny how he felt ethically compelled to deny your application, but did not feel ethically compelled to comply with a Terms of Use agreement that the agreed to upon joining the site. Personally, I'm not sure I'd want to give personal information and access to my work to such a person, especially one who has already demonstrated he has no problem with sending unsolicited commercial email.

Sounds like he's a wanker. No loss for this site and no skin off my nose.

tyrkinn: Never mind that site. I used to be a member (challenging) there, now my account doesn't work (Did he find out I am a DPC member, too? :-)))). And I don't care. Just step over, you don't have time to stop and think about people like that, it's not worth at all. Come on, cheer up. :-) If he bans all DPC members from his site, after a time, there will be noone competiting there. :-))

verry disturbed person, if he would like to take revenge on DPC he would take his mambers not send them away so even if revenge is what he has in his disturbed mind still no logic in it.

I had high hopes for that site... really unfortunate this had to happen. :( Quite a few DPC members are also members on that site i believe... but why take his anger on us DPC members? It wasn't us that expelled him from DPC?!?

I signed up as a member ages ago and entered a photo on the black and white challenge and then heard nothing, so I do not expect the site to do that well as it seems to be very poorly run. I was unaware that he had been removed from DPC for whatever reasons.

I agree to all of you guys.

I'm not sorry at all about not getting in there, if this guy is calling the shots, I wouldnt like to stay around. After all, DPC is the best site I've seen in this area and I really don't need another one (did this more to check it out). When I signed up for DPC I had no idea how addictive this site is, I have learned so much here and would like to thank all of you for your work and comments on my own.

Right, I remember I visited once due to some spam in the forums, but didn't even got tempted to join. I can't belive someone is especting me to bag them to join when there are 999 photo sites all over the internet and that one is the poorest in features I seen, as far as I was alowed as visitor. That site will never be close to what this is. Looks more like a private personal webpage to me than a serious public photography comunity.

I sent this guy a reply yesterday, and this morning his reply was in my inbox, this guy is something...

My reply from yday:
"I really can't se what your issue with DPC has to do with my membership request at PT. Sad to see you are taking it out on me, since I had nothing to do with your own cancelled membership at DPC.
Thanks for reviewing anyway.

Regards, Tyrkinn"

His reply:
"Hi Harald,

firstly and mostly, PT expects one prime requisit from its members (and from the mad webmaster of course): maturity.

Maturity means, among other things, the capability to recognize our own mistakes.

I never said that the decision I got in your case was the best (or the
right) one.

However, I wrote enough in my previous e-mail to show that I was not "taking it on you".
It happened that your application arrived under particular circumnstances, so particular that to take a decision was not easy at all.

So, please, don't write me to tell me that I take it out on you.. I respect you and I showed my respect in all my previous e-mails.

Let's be mature.

I can reconsider your application but not now and not because of DPC (which is the past, already fading fast).

I cannot reconsider it now because I am reviewing the requirements for membership and, in particular, the requirements for judges members (who plays a very critical role in the life-cycle of the website).

If you are still interested, I will keep you informed with the evolution of the subscription process for this particular role and we will take it from there.

Kind Regards
Antonio"

...he's so mature...

That guy always was a bit odd. Compared to some of his past posts in the forums, that e-mail he sent you is practically Shakspearean.
