i know this was talked about at one time but i cant recall if it was ever done.

a challenge topic is announced (maybe a choice of two) but you have to use a photo you took before the challenge date.

maybe even make it a speed challenge.

Shoehorning an existing shot into the announced topic, I guess?

Just so I get you strait, it is trying to find an old image that fits into the current topic. You can't go out and take a new one so that it fits the topic, you just have to use one you already have.

I like this idea, gives some photos that I really like but couldn't enter into a challenge because they didn't fit into a topic a chance at getting entered.

I suppose there should be a rule that it can't be a photo you have used previously in a challenge. Although that would be pretty obvious to most people.

It would be too easy for people to set their clock back on their camera if they wanted to shoot a photo to fit the challenge.

That's true, but we've held plenty of challenges where older images were allowed, and they have worked out fine. There's no incentive to put in extra work to shoot something new when you can draw on your entire library.

When I read the title, I was expecting a topic that you would have to shoehorn an entry in, ie : shoehorning a pencil into a "technology" challenge -- something that makes me go "well yes-- but no."

Your version would be interesting though. Would it have a sub topic to go with it, or a range of dates that we have to pull our image from?

Shoot, submit, then the topic is announced at rollover and beginning of voting.

LOL! I like this variation on the idea... here's a slight variation on this:
- Shoot, submit.
- Submission phase closes and topic is announced 1 day before voting begins; entrants have 1 day to change their title to shoehorn their photo in

This is what I do for every challenge ever. Might as well just skip the "shoehorn" part.

You could have people shoot and submit and then only change the "title" later- or only get to name it after announced. Thats the true art of shoehorning.

Almost like the DNMC challenge, except that you get to change the title of your entry. Cool idea, but would probably take some Langdon magic to allow the title changes.

True. It would probably be very challenging for him and I bet he just doesn't have the skillz to do it. *taunt* *taunt*
