I have 5 days off in September to celebrate turning 50. The original plan was to go to Florida, and stay with an old friend. This plans have fallen through. So my dilemma...where to go on limited funds.

I was hoping to make turning 50 special instead of being the dreaded half a century mark. I'd love to visit the east coast. Been to Main and Boston before and loved being by the water. Any DPCers who'd like a house guest for a few days?

If you get anywhere towards Texas, I'd love to get together with you. Probably not on your way, though.

If your funds are limited, a Pure Michigan experience might be in order.

I'm exploring N. Manitou island next month.

While I could do the Pure Michigan idea, I was hoping to spend my 50th somewhere a bit more special.

A word from and ole fart who has experienced life to the fullest...

"Special" is and always will be that which has no monetary value, like love, family, friendship, health, happiness... all those things that will make you smile and shed a tear of happiness later on in years.

Have a very happy birthday my fiend... and here is hoping you do find that something "Special".

This will be perfect as I love the east coast but have never been to Cape Cod. I've been to Maine and to Boston and enjoyed both.

You'll love Cape Cod, Linda. September is the last month of the tourist season there; the crowds are dwindling. We were there in the late '90s in the third or fourth week of September. Went over to Martha's Vinyard for a day, no problems with crowds. Got on a whale-watching trip with little notice.
