really, could be any of the topics. Just Raw.

Not possible. Uploader won't accent RAW, right?

aside from the fact it's technically not possible, what's the point in doing this?

Not strictly true, as those who shoot in Raw upload the original file for validation.

Don't see the point of the challenge suggestion - surely the whole point of shooting in raw is to choose how best to post-process rather than the camera deciding for you. I'm not really sure what your intent is - no editing? Only editing of the raw, eg through Lightroom?

From this thread I believe.

Yes, I saw that, but still can't see the point. We have minimal editing anyway, can't see this adds any value at all.

The uploaded for challenges only accepts jpegs. You can only upload raw files for validation. Aside from that, I don't see the point in a RAW image challenge either.

Uh...unless I'm mistaken (please correct if I am), a RAW file needs some interpreter to be viewed as an image. That interpreter itself must process the RAW data. Since interpreters can render images differently, this idea isn't possible.

Besides the problem that current browsers do not display RAW images, there's also the matter of bandwidth -- people have mentioned how long it would take for the photographer to upload a large image, but nobody's mentioned how long it would take for even a hundred voters to each download and view a hundred 50MB photos ...

And the difference between this and Minimal Editing...issssss?

One of them is actually possible.

I was thinking more along the line of uploading the RAW image to dpchallenge. dpchallenge converts it to a jpeg, same settings for every image submitted, then resizes to the 800 px longest edge.

Make it a month long challenge to submit to.

Once again, I think a lot of people would enjoy getting to know their camera a lot better and trying to relate to the image they are taking.

This is still no different from an unedited jpg shot on the same camera, which is what minimal editing offers.

If no edits are made while converting the RAW to jpg, the RAW will look just like the original jpg. The effect is the same.

Every RAW conversion involves setting some values for certain parameters. It makes a *little* more sense to compare these if they are all processed using the same settings and software, though I don't even know if that's possible, and definitely doesn't seem worth the time to me; though I wouldn't have as much of a vested interest as usual, since I wouldn't be able to enter.

And I thought we were talking about uncooked, uncut vegetables....

Just not possible. We need a pap machine.

Is that really the reason you're proposing this challenge? Are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with the equipment you own and the significant advantage it would provide in such a challenge? How about this. We run the challenge but you must use a phone camera. Deal? :P
