your best bet would be doing your own review. collect examples of work that you would like to get and then pull the images from your gallery that you think best represent those types of work. look through magazines, books, and other marketing collateral (brochures, mailers, postcards, pamphlets) to see what types of photography the commercial market is paying to use.
yes, a portfolio is necessary, but it's nothing without a reputation of consistently showing up on time, getting the job done to specifications, and delivering on-time and on budget. it's that reputation of being able to work with clients that will make you money by getting you hired to shoot. otherwise, all your doing is working to create a stock portfolio that will most likely get lost in the sea of the other bazillion camera owners contributing to the micro-stock markets...
