Ok, I am stumped.

I have the AB Cybersync and have had success with these units, until recently!!

My problem...

I have the triggers plugged into my strobes and everything fires no problem. When I use the same trigger on my speedlite no action.NOthing!!

before u ask...
Yes I have the speedlite on Manual
yes all my wires are conected properly
yes my frequency settings all match
yes my batteries are new
yes they used to work on my speedlites at one time but not anymore.

Any ideas ?

You got me scratching my head..... Your connecting the cyber trigger to the hot shoe or the pc port? If pc port, you don't have a flash on the hot shoe by chance?

no.

Cold shoe for all my speedlites.
I have the wire direct into my pc port for my 580 exII, then I have a cold shoe with an adapter on the end to fit the pc end connection for my 430 and my 580 ex.

Let me try a stupid question... Don't suppose you disabled the flash fire on the body hey??
06/30/2011 11:05:03 PM · #5
how do you do that?

I have the transmitter on the body sending the signal out to my receivers.

So not sure what you mean.

Not sure about the 50D but there is a custom option that says something like don't fire the flash.... any chance that was set so your not getting a fire signal sent? Does the test button fire the flashes? Dunno as it sounds like you covered everything I can think of.....

Yes the test button fires. I will check my settings on the camera.

Don't really see how that would affect the signal. I will check anyway.

I'm assuming you have confirmed the trigger does not fire the receivers when firing the camera and ALSO when using the test button on the trigger. It could be the connection from trigger to camera hotshoe is poor. If you just replaced batteries, I would reconfirm that they work with ABs, too. I find it awfully easy to put the coin cell in the wrong way, and then nothing happens..... Not that it has ever happened to me, personally, but I have heard of it happening to other photographers... :-)

My nikon speedlights will go into sleep mode, so an extra trigger signal is required to wake them up.

And I guess there could be a menu setting in the camera or on the speedlights, but that seems unlikely. I do know that I have to fuss with settings on my Canon G10 to get it to fire the CST, while I have never had to that with my Nikon DSLRs, so there may be a setting on your Canon.

Their Tech Support Forum is very helpful. Might give them a try, too. Let us know what the answer is.

ETA: it sounds like you said the test button on the CST fires them, but your camera body is not firing the CST. Check to make sure the little contact on the bottom of the CST is still springy, and not jammed, and maybe a bit of wiggling. Pencil eraser on contacts never hurts. But given my issue with finessing my G10 to fire the hotshoe, camera settings seem worth investigating. I wonder if the body does not "recognize" something is there if it is not making contact with Canon specific contacts/signals. There may be a setting that tells it to fire the hotshoe anyway...

my usual setup wil consist strobes and speedlites at the same time. when I take a shot the storbes fire but the speedlites do not. So I w tried switching the receivers to see if that is the problem..the strobes still fire with the receiver that was just on the speedlite.

test button on the reciver will not fire the speedlite. The test button on the flash itself will fire the flash.

When you say the test button on the receiver will not fire the speedlight--do you mean the receiver at the speedlight, or the CST on the camera, or both?

I am assuming that the take the shot, strobes fire means the camera is triggering the CST fine, and you then have some specific problem with the connection to the speedlight, or the menu settings in the speedlight. ODD, thats for sure. I'd hit up the PCB tech forum with this one.

Both!

the other thing is..when I unplug/or plug in the cord for the receiver the flash will sometimes fire

Make sure your receivers are not in repeater mode. Doesn't sound like that is the problem though.

Whats repeater mode?

Marc - Damn fine idea... makes sense

Leo - The light will blink multiple times in each loop.... hold the button down on the receiver to get it off....

OK problem solved!

Im an idiot!

I was in manual mode, but the flashes were set to wireless setup. my 580 was set up as the master and the 430 was set on slave!!! AS soon as I turned that option off on each flash they fired flawlessly.

SHit! I had to settle for 2 lights on my FS shot because I couldnt figure that out today!

Thx guys.
