Exactly. It always leaves me with a good feeling when I vote high. We all get dragged down with low votes on our images and if you go in and vote low in retaliation (even if unintended) you still feel like crap afterwards. I am sitting on a low score and yet after voting 5 to 10...I feel great.

Well, I have a voting average of 6.5. So, I can hardly be called a troll. But, I will vote as I see it and not high to balance low scores or vote low to punish low scores I've received.
I want to vote exactly as I see it. I already found a new FAV for my collection! ;-)

...somewhat interesting to note...on my uncalibrated laptop, quite a few images looked like simple B&W when compared to viewing them on my calibrated desktop monitor, on which I do all editing and such. So perhaps this is why some are voting lower in regards to the sepia-ness of a photo? An uncalibrated PC monitor tends to run very cool as far a color temp is concerned.

i think this is brought up a lot; from what i recall of past challenges and voting- but not everyone understands how to calibrate their monitors; perhaps a suggestion worth making is a before ppl can vote test of their screen calibration ie please roll the scale to match the colors together - and u pass or fail - heh - random idea form left field that has nothing to do with sepia; sooo- back on topic... i shot a few more pics today- i'll proli throw one of them into one of the current challenges going on if this does't bomb below a 4 tonight... |

Interesting. I do all my work on an uncalibrated laptop, and the colors are quite true to the colors I get in my prints. I've also had many complements on the colors in my images. |

If they are using sepia to bring out details that black and white hide then they have have done what was asked. That is really why sepia was popular. Gives a more visually detailed image since it is warmer. |

On my own work surface, I have two monitors, both Dell. One gives me 'warm' colors, the other gives me 'cool' colors. Yes, I could fiddle and make them the same, but they remind me that monitors can differ. Not only the whites, the blacks, the sharpness, etc. but the colors, themselves. Sure I know which monitor gives me the exact colors I need for printing (It's the left one) but the information on both of them is important.
So when someone tells me "it's too dark/light, the color is off..." I know it is a look translated by their monitor. And that information is important as well.

Sepia toning, originally, was primarily an archival process. Converting the silver in the print to silver sulfides gave at least a 50% improvement in image life.

Mine's not brown but it definitely is down there.
I haven't scored a sub5 since SEPTEMBER 2010, so I really really hope this entry doesn't ruin that streak |

Not sure what that averages out to but it's in the right direction at least. My only comment has nothing to say (literally) that makes me guess that they were taught that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Yes, another reason why it was used. Although, it has little meaning in the digital world. |

I regained my .2 last night, but it's coming down slightly this morning. I think everyone should be required to have a cocktail before they vote. I like mellow voters. |

My entry's doing poorly and for the first time in ages I can't tell why. So the options are a)shoddy image b)bad sepia c) incredibly boring d) all of the above. Anyone want to answer this post challenge? :p
