Kung Fu panda 2-8/10 adorable!! I enjoyed the 3d and the the storyline.. I thought it was clever how they explained why there were so few pandas left. I took my mum with me and she thinks all cartoons are for kids.. Now she's waiting for part 3.

Waiting for Superman - 10/10 and 1/10
Very well put together, but gets marked way down for causing me to yell and throw things at my tv, my blood to boil and my head to explode. |

insidious - 7/10. Aside from some STRONG similarities to a famous ghost movie (which shall remain nameless so as not to provide any spoilers) is was unique enough and had some great shocks and twists. scared the crap out of all of us that watched together.

I have to disagree. 5/10. It was so lame. The acting was not up to par, partially because the script writing was horrendous. The jokes were very NOT funny. The long-awaited romance between Ron and Hermione was uninspired. The other romances/kisses felt like they were thrown in there because the writers felt like they had to. The battles were horribly anticlimactic. And the lighting and photography were so bland that I didn't even geek out over then once! |

The Bridge on the River Kwai -- Best Picture (and six other) Oscar winner 1957. More a psychological study than "war movie" ... |

Absolutely agree. My favorite movie of all time. Thanks for flagging this one. |

Knight and Day (2010) [Knight and Day (2010) IMDB
Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz
June Havens finds her everyday life tangled with that of a secret agent who has realized he isn't supposed to survive his latest mission. As their campaign to stay alive stretches across the globe, they soon learn that all they can count on is each other.
7/10 - Was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. A bit daft in places but some good action mixed with comedy.

Top film - I saw it when it came out in the cinema in our town in 1960 (film was made in 1957) and have seen it numerous times since.

Hereafter - 5/10. The part my wife really enjoyed was where I vocalized my own dialog interpretation over the unsubtitled French dialog. I think they overestimated how many people can understand French or wrongly assumed you could just "get" what they were saying by their gestures and expressions. Overall, a little predictable, a little annoying, but somewhat entertaining. I give it a "Meh" |

Black Swan - 6/10. Pretty good - in a Norman Bates / Baby Jane kinda way. One thing bugged me was throughout the entire movie, Natalie Portman had this paranoid, freaked out look on her face - constantly - I understand the character's mindset, but the expression was excessive - much like that woman on the TV Series 24 - Cloe - her expression always grated on me, too.

Had an OnDemand weekend: Red, Lincoln Lawyer, and Unknown
Red was a lot of silly fun, and it was an enjoyable, light time, with a great cast.
Lincoln Lawyer actually surprised me--I expected it to be average, and instead it was a bit more complex and interesting.
Unknown was good, too. Interesting plot, good cast, etc.
None of the three were GREAT, MUST SEE films, but all were worth watching on their own merits. |

Buck (documentary)
About a horse trainer named Buck Brannaman. One of the best documentaries I've seen this year.

cowboys and aliens.
i need to give this two different ratings. if you are interested in special effects and great sound, this is definitely the movie for you, 9/10
if you like a good story, don't bother. the whole story is in the trailer, don't look for any depth, character development or twists. 2/10
overall 5.5/10 |

Totally agree here. Just take it as it comes and enjoy the shallow ride. |

[SPOILER ALERT!!!!] [SPOILER ALERT!!!!]
partly agree, i saw it last night. while it didn't live up to the book, they did a pretty good job mainly becuase it was broken into two movies. However the final confrontation with Harry and Voldemort was so anticlimactic in this movie, while in the book potter explained to Voldemort why Voldemort why elder wand wouldn't work and that he got played, the movie did this after the fact in a conversation with Hermione and Ron. The book did such a better job at giving the reader a sense of satisfaction and resolution for sticking through the series than the movie did. The movie just rang a little hollow, but they did do a pretty good job with most of the material, especially with Snapes backstory. i think they could have nailed it with the final duel by spending a few extra minutes. I was really waiting to see Voldemort get his comeuppance on the big screen and it never happened, im a little bummed, but i should have expected it after the Half Blood prince debacle.
7/10.

I completely agree. The final battle (SPOLER which was mostly a lot of blur, then some pretty floating ashes--what!? /SPOILER) was definitely a let-down. Not satisfying at all!
@ DrAchoo
I know. I loved the books and thought they were beautifully written and masterfully planned with more details planted for readers to notice during a second or third read. That's partially why the movie was so disappointing. With such an engaging story to work with, I would have thought it to be super easy for the script writers to come up with something spectacular. Maybe I just had high expectations on that part. As for the lighting and photography though, some of the other movies (particularly "Half Blood Prince," and especially in the theatre, which, of course, has more tonal range in the screen than on a home TV set) had really wonderful lighting and photography. The DP of "Half Blood Prince" was spot-on. I geeked out a lot for that one and was disappointed that I couldn't repeat it for 7.2. |

i hated half blood prince, worst of the movies but probably second best of the books. While i agree the direction and cinematography was very good, the story completely missed its mark. SPOILER!!!, first they missed conveying how much harry was spellbound and how much he idled the halfblood prince and second the absolutely zero focus on the death of AD which was a pivotal moment in the series.
sorry to hijack the thread but i had to get this off my chest, i spent the last week re-watching all 7 movies before getting ready for last night, and i have some pent up disappointments to expel. |

Yeah we saw the last Harry Potter in Imax 3D. Wasn't worth the extra price to me, but I did enjoy the movie. 8/10

I truthfully can't remember much of the movie for that one because every time I have watched it, I have spent the whole time explaining to my fellow viewers how beautiful and delicate the lighting is : )
I'll definitely need to re-watch that one properly, but it sounds like you have a point there.

I've never seen any of the Harry Potter movies, and have no plans to start.
With that said, last movie I saw was Trust. It was pretty good, but scary. Definitely not a feel good movie. Parents really need to watch it. I'd rate it 8/10. |

That's definitely a tip-off that the movie isn't so great... |
