Surprise it climbed over the 4.2 from late last night. Unless you were dead and arms stiff there is no way my image could've been hand held, YET.. I got the comment and a 3 from a voter (not Qiki either) that suggested it was hand held.. SIGH... I can't hand hold a 1/40th from hand shake much less the full 1 second on this... Thank God I don't rely on DPC votes for a living! LOL

Forgot I wanted to Thank JustFred and Jutilda for very nice and useful comments!

You have rated 89 of 89 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 21 images (24%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 7.2809.

Only about 20% which were average, and did'nt portray the need for a tripod, but overall, Good job by most.

Well I'm so glad i did'nt enter this challenge, I gave out 12 10's, and nearly exact amount of 9's, I'm no-where up to this standard ATM, so I loved viewing and voting and dreaming that one day I can supersede to that level.

My score is actually rising! I'm surprised, and of course excited. Haven't scored in the 6s in far too long

Yes and I dont want to jinx it. It would be my personal best by far.

Funny..... I have two comments so far about my obvious use of a tripod. One rates it highly obvious the other says completely the opposite (and not very nicely either).
06/21/2011 06:36:14 PM · #67
I would have assumed initially that any sharp night photography, HDR, water blur, etc. would be obvious tripod use. Apparently with some voters they will vote you down if they can conceive of a different way to have taken the image.
Night photography, bah, after all we have cameras that do well with high ISO, HDR, bah, could be single image, etc. Come on. Give us a break will ya? I suppose I should have mentioned in the title how many seconds was my exposure.

3 out of 4 comments I got go to great lengths why they don't think tripod was used, mainly because nothing looks blurred in my image (well, not at the resolution of the entry at least). I never got such long comments to justify DNMC!

+1 - with the exception that the dissenter was very critical but not unkind

I hate to agree with those being shamed, but I found quite a few entries where the tripod use was not completely obvious. They didn't qualify as DNMC, but the ones that made images impossible without a tripod got bumped up a bit. On the whole a good looking group with some very creative takes.

well.... I didn't see it as kind, but I admit that I don't like being told I'm wrong.

i didn't say kind ;)

it was honest, harsh, and appreciated. i knew i was wrong so it didn't hurt to hear it in an honest critique

hahaha... me too... longest comments ever, and all looking for something blurry to indicate that a tripod was used. duh! i use a tripod to AVOID getting blurry images (esp for HDR)... hehehe (laughing with tears all the way to my lowest score in a long time, although it has creeped slowly up today).

great job everyone who made tripod use obvious!

Heh, I've got a feeling some of these comments are being directed at me. :-) Just so some folks know, I do not have a horse in this race - in fact, I never vote in challenges I'm in. I was trying to put myself in the photog's shoes and tried to imagine if I could pull off the shot without a tripod. If I could, I explained how. If not, I explained why. I may have been blunt in my comments, but I certainly tried not to be rude.(not my personality) Also, my personal "tripod gauge" wasn't the score you received. Even if I gauged it a 1, you didn't get a 1. The lowest score I handed out was a 3.
