I bought these Transcend 16gb 400x cf cards and was so impressed with the speed of writing to the card and then transferring the files to my computer until the second time I used one it failed on me while shooting pictures of 8th grade promotion. Needless to say, I sent them back and bought Sandisk. I've had Sandisk cards for 5-6 years or so and never once had a corrupt/failed card.
Just needed to get that off my chest.

| Sorry for you loss ... this is one reason I prefer to use several smaller cards rather than one gigantic one -- I think the difference between the generic and brand-name cards is probably quality-control more than technology, so even with generics it's unlikely that, if you'd had four 4-GB cards, all the cards would have failed at once. Here, like with many things, the slower and less-convenient way is often safer. |

I have a 16Gb transcend card that I bought about 6 months ago. So far it has worked fine, but it is a 133x.

Anything working at the limits of size and speed is almost always going to be more prone to failure ... when you use cutting-edge technology you had better stock up on bandages. |

| Transcend IS a name brand. I've got Transcend cards dating back to 2002 and never had a problem with them (note that your link rates the card 4.5 stars with 83 reviews). |

I have an 8GB transcend card that I bought several years ago. It's had 20-30K shots run through it and it still going strong. I wouldn't be scared to buy another one. |

And this is why I bought them...
I do use a few different cards so I won't lose everything...
I have to say, I am really wary of Transcend now even though it is a name brand...
I bought a few of the Sandisk 16 gb 400x for only $7 more per card. The price of the Sandisk must have gone down after I bought the Transcend because there is no way I would have tried to cheap out on a lesser brand to save only $7... |

| Same here. I've used several 8GB and 16GB cards from Transcends for years without a single hiccup. Oddly enough the only card that has failed me was from SanDisk. |

Yeah, I am afraid now of any card becoming corrupted... I don't care what brand... |

Only brand I've ever had fail on me was a Lexar Professional. I sent the card to them, they pulled several layers of photos from it, sent them to me on a disk with a new card.

Same here... and that card went back to Lexar TWICE for repair. |

I'm not sure I trust Sandisk. This card was only 3 weeks old and a solder joint failed. I was lucky and was able to pull my pictures off of it. I still need to contact Sandisk and see what they will do about it. 8 gig card.
