If you are good with sweep arpeggios, Joe Satriani - Always with Me, Always With You or a little less technical song is Crying. |

You can get the sheet music for it free from his website under TABS even though it's the actual music. He's tuned to DADF#AD |

Almost everything I know was written well before you were born ... :-)
These are some I've been working on with my son (plays clarinet) which have some interesting chords/tunes/rhythms ...
On The Way Home -- Neil Young
Little Wing -- Jimi Hendrix
Red Rubber Ball -- Paul Simon
Brokedown Palace -- Grateful Dead
Things We Said Today -- Beatles
The Doll House -- Phil Ochs
Pride Of Man -- Hamilton Camp
If You Could Read My Mind -- Gordon Lightfoot |

I'm several levels below mediocre on the guitar and I know mostly only old songs. The Beatles' 'You've got to hide your love away' and "I should have known better' come to mind, and Neil Diamond's 'Holly Holy'. There would be more, but I can't seem to find my song books and I haven't actually played the guitar much in the last eight years. ;-Þ |

I would say
"Jane Says" by Jane's Addiction
"stairway to heaven"
"satellite" Dave Matthews
"Patience"- GNR
Fall on me, the one I love, Driver Eight, I am Superman- Rem
Blackbird, Norwegian wood, etc. Beatles
Wild Horses, Angie, Waiting on a Friend- Stones

Between the buried and me - Laser speed is nice and peaceful.
And then if you want to get into their more technical melodic beauty try this one BTBAM - Ants of the sky |

A couple that I've always enjoyed playing are "Blackbird" (The Beatles), and "Dust in the Wind" (Kansas). |

Good stuff to learn off by heart are things like "American Pie", "Hey Jude" "Wonderwall" "Brown Eye Girl" etc. stuff that everyone can sing along to at parties/BBQs etc. Nothing beats having a few drinks and a group of you belting out classics such as these - stuff with big anthemic choruses that even the drunks can sing along to..
And try them with a 12 string as well - something nice, loud and rich sounding... MMmmmmmm mmmmm. |

Creedence Clearwaters' catalog is good for a beginner, for the most part it's a limited # of chords with practically no bar chords and a lot of the compositions lend themselves well to fingerpicking. |
