This would be interesting to do. Basically you spend several days shooting at the same spot over the course of a month and then composite the results as a single image. Heck, you could use the flash as a way to get people to look in the directions you want and light them at the same time similar to this.

Well, here is the thing. You can't just go any place and start putting your flashes down and start shooting people. That wouldn't be smart. However, if you have friends that could help you to model for you "in the street", or if you know parks that young people would agree to have their photos taking while skating or biking with an exchange of a print or two... of course asking younger people's families, that would be just fine. I have taken 9 and 8 years old kids photos after I asked their dad with an exchange of a CD. That's totally personal and you also can ask to publish them on sites like this one or even ask them if you can send their photos to sport magazines. Your gain could be their gain as well.
Anyways, it is for fun at most, and see what you guys can do (if there are others joining to SC that is)
*** I called it "street photography" doesn't mean a "street candid photography". You can always setup your stuff on the street and use models if you wish *** |

Waiting for my second flash, yet to arrive!. I can't wait to start shooting though, it should be fun.
New challenge "Fill Flash II" is pretty close what this SC all about. Use not only a fill but also back-lid too.
This could help you to hold your flash down if you don't have tripod and flash attachments.
I got me free jells in the past (from this post) which now I can use them with my new flashes and try different color affects for back-lights. |

While jello might tint your light it's probably not healthy for your flash. I would suggest going with gels instead. :P
Btw, the link you posted doesn't work (i.e. the link to the free gels in the thread). People may just need to email Rosco directly for a pack (I couldn't find a good link). I had no problems getting mine back in '08 but I've seen in various posts online that there is now a wait for them due to high demand. BHPhoto is also out of them. They sell them for a $1.95. After I got my free sample I ended up getting a couple more packs of the corective gels from MPEX. However they are $15.95 a pop but at least they don't have the holes in them like the free packs and they come in a little plastic container vs the cumbersome plastic screw that holds the gels in the free pack.

If people know how simple to get pro-looking photos without spending a fortune, I don't think they would ever get bored. However, it does need some spending, I'd say between 1 to 10 ("10" is a Nikon d3x or Canon 1D Mark IV with most expensive lenses, and "1" as in point and shoot camera with 3X lens) I'd give 4 to start with (gets you a decent flash with either slave option or sync connector to a Rebel or D80)
You could spend less than a grand and get gears enough to start this SC (not saying you should, just saying you can)
Adding the "gels" to make things more interesting ;) |

Thank you "admin" for changing the title :) This probably should explain bit more what this SC all about.
Please do start posting photos from anytime of the year. Older photos are welcome. Idea is to show people other style of photography other than "studio", "macro", "candid", "scenery" etc.
As I mentioned before, I will ask skaters in skate-parks for their photos with print exchange (I will offer 11X14 prints). There might be a couple of shots worth of sending to skating related magazines. You could offer similar to not only skaters but also models as well (I think Model Mayhem one place to find models with portfolio exchange) |

There were a few from this that I didn't use flash on but I don't remember which ones. SB900 fired on camera.
This was for the Red Bull Final Descent 2010 Winter Park. I went up to watch my friend participate and also did some riding of my own, just not in the race.

Someone directed me to this guy's website (Frank Doorhof), and I hooked since. He is very good taking photos using simple flashes in streets. Check him out here. This thread started way before I knew him, but idea is what he does. |
