What is the difference between Guns and Cameras

If you forget your camera at home, you might miss a shot
If you forget your gun at home, you might miss a shot and you die.

I opened this discussion, because some people getting excited about "being" ready and having cameras handy at the time when they needed (luckily)!

As a photographer, I carry my camera and bag with me all the time. Even when I walk my dog (that time without the bag of course). Why, I LOVE photography, and good pictures come in usually unexpected moment and time (not counting studios obviously)

Say you're journalist photographer... would you carry your camera with you all the time, or just listen the scanner, if something comes up, jump in the car and go to the place where ever it is.

I am just wondering, this thread is not to offend someone but just to know what ya'll think about it.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about Leo.

Basically the questions are,

Do you carry your camera with you all the time or just take it with you for events?
How important to capture unexpected moments for you?
If you're a photo journalist, how important to have your camera with you all the time?

It's a good discussion. I often find myself out and about and really wanting to shoot someone only to realize I don't have a gun.
Sometimes I want to shoot Clive, but aside from the gun, there is a range issue.

I hope this doesn't go to Rant. :P

HAH! I think the thread header is not matching with the main subject here.. however, my point was, even though you would not die missing a shot if you don't have your camera with you, would it make you feel extremely sorry because you missed it?

Ah, right. With you now. The gun thing threw me off.

Yes, i pretty much carry my Panasonic GF1 with the 20mm f1.7 lens with me most of the time. It's what i got it for really as i found the DSLR just a bit too big. It's perfect for that and i really like the 20mm range (which i think kind of equates to a 40mm FF view). I really enjoyed it set on manual focus for the HCB challenge to shoot from the hip.

Understandable. I am eminently shootable.

Happens all the time. Degree of regret depends on the opportunity lost. I guess the same could be said about the gun.

Well, with some humor(ish) header here, that's what I meant. One you miss, and you feel sorry, but if you miss with other, there might not be the next time ever. Carrying a gun with me is important as camera, I don't think I would leave any of them home. One for not lose a good opportunity, and other to save my life.

I don't carry a gun as they are hard to get hold of in the UK. I usually carry a number of knifes on me though. A flick-knife and a stanley knife and a couple of others. Sometimes i strap a machete to my thigh in the summer if i'm wearing shorts. You can't be too careful in the Welsh countryside. I already mentioned in another thread i got followed home by a hedgehog the other night.

Somehow I remembered "The Public Eye" movie from Joe Pesci... Now, there is a gun and camera movie you want to see... it was great if you ask me.
