"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to capture objects off-the-ground in an unusual way. Through your camera, photograph the world in suspended animation unlike you normally would."

Connect the bold and you'll see that it's asking for action from the photographer, not that the object be unnatural to the air.

Once again it's horribly worded. Of course everyone has their own opinion; but if English grammar rules are to be followed, that is exactly what it means.

Reworded to mean what most think it means:

"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to capture objects that aren't naturally/usually/typically off the ground. Use your camera to photograph objects in unnatural suspended animation."

Edit: Running the challenges by an editor wouldn't hurt. You like ambiguity in art, but every week it's a battle of semantics.

Agreed. So there was more than one way to interpret the challenge description since it was poorly worded. Knowing that should help us be more lenient about handing DNMC and low votes.

Ok people -- you need to read the challenge description!!

"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to .. [more] capture objects off-the-ground in an unusual way. Through your camera, photograph the world in suspended animation unlike you normally would."
 |

I read the challenge description and am being told my shot is DNMC. So what does the description mean then?
 |

Basically something jumping, something falling, something thrown or otherwise suspended in midair that would require a fast shutter speed to capture.
 |

I figured that some might go with this direction. Is it the "fast shutter speed" that implies the jumping, falling, thrown etc. stuff? To me, if an object is already flying in the air, or somehow naturally in the air, it meets all of the requirements of the description.

Let's say you want to capture a plane or a bird flying. The fast shutter speed would certainly help and give the appearance of something suspended in midair. I guess I want to know what leads people to think that you had to put something in the air that is not naturally there.
 |

It can be natural -- it just needs to be unusual and unlike you normally would see/photograph. I also assumed that the "you" was a plural you. Since it was made to the entire site. So I assumed that this was looking for suspended animation in a way that was not commonly found on DPC. If the shots are a dime a dozen, it's the norm, not outside the norm.

I expected as much though (well, maybe a slightly higher 4.x, but still <5). I guess that's what happens when you have no intention of entering a challenge and on the final evening of submission are going through photos you took the day before and think "Hey, I guess that fits the open challenge, I might as well enter". The image itself I'm fairly happy with though, so I don't mind about the score, the 2 comments I've gotten so far have made entering worth while (I'm only counting 2 since the 3rd is essentially a copy and paste of the challenge rules with the text "learn to read" appended). =)
