this image!
challenge image
Site council requested the original twice now and I only have one original but they say the file has been changed also I just transferred it to Elements. The only thing I could imagine happened that the automatic analyzer saved the file and if so, how can I undo that if at all??? Any help would be appreciated |

Do you still have that photo on your card?
What kind of computer are you using (PC or Mac?)
You want to simply move the photo from your card to your computer as a file. Drag and drop. Then send THAT file to the Site Council. Don't rename, don't do anything. Just move it from your card to your computer and send! |

It's the one that tells you if your photos are in focus etc
It does it automatically once the pictures are transferred

What did SC say was wrong with the photo you sent in?
You can send it to me if you like. I'll look at the data.

Oooo that could do it, if it is editing or stripping EXIF data.

Your image in the Flowers in Garden & Field challenge, "In The Meadow" needs to be validated.
Note from Administrator:
This file has modified EXIF and is therefore not acceptable for proof. Please supply a copy of the photo EXACTLY as it came from the camera.

Yes...read the link I posted. It looks like that Auto analyzer is changing your Exif data. I'm not sure if you can fix it once it does that.

Don't give up. You may be able to recover the image from your card. The image is too good to give up on !

Hmmm, interesting. I don't use Elements, but that does sound like something (Auto Analyzer) that you want to TURN OFF if you are shooting in jpeg only and want to submit to challenges. That sucks.

I had no idea it was doing that and I will shut it off right away....somehow I thought it was for my information only. Never thought for a moment that it would change the properties of my file!

You need a File Recovery Program, but I dont know of any good free ones unfortunately. |

I use Photoshop Elements 6, and it include Adobe Photo Downloader to get the files from the camera and import them into the Elements Organizer. It also creates a folder for the photos (named by date usually) and stores the files on your hard drive (or wherever you have designated). If you are shooting RAW files, then you have no worries - this file is OK for validation. However, if you shoot jpegs only, then the file's EXIF data is tagged by the downloader, making them invalid as originals. When I first joined the site, I sent in a jpeg file to the SC as a test and they replied that it would be invalid. I don't know of a way to strip the tag from the EXIF after the fact.
If you use the downloader to import the photos, you must then use Explorer to browse to the camera and copy the original file directly to a separate folder. That is the file to send in for validation. Do not open or resave this file. Use the copy that was imported by the downloader as your copy for editing.
I assume that later versions of Elements behave in the same manner.

That is a really hard lesson to learn I say! I had read about this but because I never "saved" the original but rather made a copy and worked on that it just did not occur to me that these things are going on behind the scenes of this program.
Bummer is all I can say as I cannot change it now!
Thank you for taking the time and sharing all this information!

Yes, I am sorry this has happened also. You have an outstanding image and I hate to see it DQ'd. It was one of my top picks in the challenge. |

I gave it an 8. To stand out in a challenge like that is very good. Oh well....

Before you give up, try to recover the original from the card. There are some good recovery programs that can get files off of a card even if you've erased them. |

I also had to revert to my "deleted" files on my flash disk for a validation request two months ago. I downloaded Zero Assumption and it worked like a charm! Try it first. The important thing to remeber is not to save the recovered file(s) on the flash disk, but on the hard drive. All of the best. |

I have seen a few people of DPC recommend this recovery software: PC Inspector smart recovery.
The only time it wont work is if you have taken more photos on the card after you formatted it. It will recover some but not all of the photos as some of the memory was re-written.
Good luck |
