I don't post rants too often as I tend to bottle things up inside me, but damn it I am pissed.
New doc looks over my medical records/history. Sees I have a history of Printzmetals Angina (coronary artery spasms) which I have to be on a calcium channel blocker for. Sees also that I have a history of heachaches, which I let him know are back to being daily with clusters of migraines. Writes me the Rx for the calcium channel blocker, and then writes me a Rx for migraine med. I questioned the migraine med as the reason I have not had any for a while is that I was told you cannot get it anymore. He tells me that that is not true and sends me off to fill my scripts and see him in a month, following the referral to a rheumatologist for some other serious issues I am having for over a year now. Sure enough, pharmacists tells me the migraine med is no longer available and they will call me doc to get me something else. This is where the doc starts really annoying me...he changes the Rx to Tramadol...a generic pain med not used for migraines. I try it anyhow, itch all night long and can't sleep due to it. Call his office the next day and he tells the nurse he would need for me to come in for an appointment to discuss the headaches again if I want something else to try. I ask nurse to have him call me as I was just in his office a few days prior and do not intend to keep paying $40 a visit just to discuss what we already discussed. He calls me back and gets pissy about me not wanting to come in for a visit. I explain I don't have the money for the office visits. He tells me then we'll try changing your calcium channel blocker to a beta blocker to see if it helps my headaches (wtf?). I inquire about what I should do then when my coronary artery spasms and causes a heart attack as it did before I was on the meds as beta blockers don't treat that problem. He gets all bent out of shape because I am questioning him, tells me that he doesn't feel he can keep me on as a patient since he senses I don't have much faith in him (no shit doc) and I have 30 days left to be seen by him before I need to go elsewhere. Meanwhile I still have a mammoth headache that has been making me feel off balanced it is so bad, and I can't get to sleep due to the pain in my head and the joint pain I have daily. I hate f*cking docs who think patients should not have a say in how they are treated. As for not being his patient...I had no intentions on returning once he demonstrated his incompetence in regards to what meds you can and cannot get and not knowing the danger in taking me off the calcium channel blocker.

It's extremely irritating -- but look at it this way. The doctor is incompetent. You are so much better off without him and with someone else. It's better that you found out now -- with something for which you had knowledge. Just think if he did something stupid and you didn't know it!!! |

I let the specialists handle my meds. Cardiologist for heart stuff, neurologist for migraines, etc. They can usually be trusted to know exactly what's going on. I know it's a PIA to deal with so many doctors, but for your health it's worth it. |

I agree, but with new health insurance I have to first find a new primary physician who knows his arse from a hole in the ground so I can even get the referrals to the specialists. |

Damn... there should be a section at Consumerreports.org for doctors. >:-(
My family doctor is so good, he saved my borther-in-law's life when he went in with a simple concern about his hearing.
IMO, you need to have a doc you have faith in. Good luck to you, ShutterPug. |
