I just noticed that when I drag a RAW file from Adobe bridge into PS it changes the file extension from .raw to .xmp. Does this affect the EXIF data in case I need to have something validated on DPC?

As far as I know the .xmp is a separate "sidecar" text file that includes settings from camera raw, and is created when you open the picture in photoshop from camera raw. Bridge reads it to know how to display the thumbnail as well as what settings to use when opening the file in Photoshop.
This is separate from the EXIF data of the raw file.
Bridge should create an extra .xmp file, but not rename your raw file.
eta: That being said, I'm not sure if opening any file in Bridge, ACR or Photoshop leaves the EXIF entirely untouched. I would only edit a duplicate of the raw unless someone else can verify it's safe.

Thanks, I just checked it out and it did create a seperate file. I have DSC_7421.nef and DSC_7421.xmp now in my folder so I guess it is OK.
