Anyone who made their entry look 'squarer than square' by making a tiny allowance for optical illusions won't have to worry about down voting from me. I took the square idea seriously, but not to the point of measuring or right clicking.

Sometimes the issue is an incorrectly set aspect ratio on your screen resolution. I had that problem once, everything was just a smidge "squished" by that.

I'm sorta new.... and maybe I'm taking the rules too seriously, but it is my understanding that voters may not vote down an entry because it doesn't meet the challenge. I've been following that rule of voting, but then what is the purpose of trying to meet the challenge?? I personally believe that an entry SHOULD have a point or two removed if it doesn't meet the challenge, but I haven't been doing that. Thoughts?

Sorry, you're understanding it wrong. You may vote however you like. What's the rules state is that you shouldn't vote down something you think may be illegally edited, just because you might not be smart enough to understand how something was done doesn't mean it's illegal. ;P |

I always vote down for DNMC. Otherwise, what's the whole point of the challenges?

Thanks, Kelli and Marc923, for your responses. That makes sense.

You're quite welcome. And I just reread my response and realized it sounded a little smart-arsed. I meant a generic "you", not you personally. LOL! |

It's also advisable to try and keep an open mind to how the photographer may have approached the challenge. There's often a fuzzy line between a shoehorned entry and a creative interpretation. I've had high scoring shoehorns (literally!) and seen other shots that met the topic to a "T" with bunches of DNMC comments on them.

You picked mine on 20 pixels!!! |
Would you like to post your title, too? (I didn't change my vote! I assume it's just a "culture" thing on your part.) |
"Culture" thing? Is that a blatant racist remark?
And unless you want to scroll through 3 pages of photos checking to see which one is off by 20 pixels (I have so many better things to do with my time), then no one will know which one is hers. |

Your entry is very easy to guess. I suspect the majority of voters guessed it too. Should you try to change the subject matter to ensure that this does not happen again? |
I agree with you. I can pick his image out of the lineup about 95 percent of the time if I try. |

Wow, hating on Richard for pointing out a feature of a tool, when many others in this thread were pointing out similar features in similar tools. Better things to do with your time indeed... |

Well received verdict - photo disqualified...
Should have read the rules carefully...I had edited out a white stone in the upper left hand corner of the photo - didn't realize that advance editing didn't allow that. oh well..lesson learned!
Originally posted by reneekerr: I remember this being advanced editing - am I right?

Just thought it was odd |
Anytime a photo appears to have a violation of one of the rules (date, editing etc), it is possible to have it challenged and require validation. | |

What the heck is going on today. Are people in bad moods, my score has dropped significantly today.
Happy Day everyone!
It is time to turn off score, I don't want to watch yet another good score shrink into nothing...I feel so bad! It seems no matter what it is not good enough.

Photoshop RAW to JPG or whatever allows you to choose a 1:1 crop. You can also hold shift while using the crop tool in Photoshop. I am sure most if not all photo editing programs have tools that do the same. |

pssst! There is a voting rule: "You may not offer or cast biased votes for any other user."
So, up or down bias, your best buddy may be off base, if he raises or lowers votes based on presumed knowledge of authorship.

Aw, come on...where's the fun in that! :P Besides, it wouldn't matter, unless you right clicked, as there would be no way to calibrate all of the measuring devices and ensure all devices used were up to standards! (NOT SERIOUS, KIDS!!) ***runs |

I would say that there is enough info here for him to be kicked off again. If we need additional info or a confession, maybe you can fly him up to the mountains and use some form of enhanced interrogation on him.
