I have this backdrop support kit and I love it. It is really heavy duty and the telescoping hang bar doesn't bow at all. I make my own muslins so I can't help with that part but this is a big sturdy set-up (no paper backdrops included though.) I didn't want to worry about stuff falling down on a client...that would suck.

That does look quite nice -- but it's a lot more expensive...
That's what I was trying to figure out. Can you get away with cheap, or is it a big mistake?
That stand is $200. The kit I was looking at includes the stand and two 10'x20' backdrops for $248... |

As far as things like stands and studio equipment I try to get the beefiest stuff I can afford. Cheap isn't so cheap when I falls down on someone or gets damaged. The stands that come with the kit you're considering don't look terribly sturdy, nor does the cross bar...and those rolls of paper can be pretty darn heavy.
ETA: I noticed it comes with 2 muslins, and not rolls of paper, so it might not be too bad?

| If I don't have that one, I have something very similar. I find the stands to be quite sturdy although they use a threading system to hold them in place, rather than a "drop in" system. I don't know if that's the right term, but with the former, it's a bit tricky to load a 9' backdrop by yourself. Also, the muslins come folded, so they're wrinkled. I've purchased two PVC rolls separately and they work just fine on these stands, but I'm looking to replace the stands now with something easier to load. |

Threading vs. drop in? Please explain. :) |
