| Is their rating system pretty good? Can I buy used from them with confidence? Looking at some used lenses. |

I bought a Canon 55-250 listed by Adorama as refurbished and it's been great. Except for coming in a refurb white box, it appeared new. I think their rating system is fairly accurate.

| I've purchased from KEH before. Definitely trustworthy if you are looking for secondhand gear. |

I've bought used from both Adorama and KEH. Both were a good experience. My lens from Adorama did have a very minor mark on the rear element, but it didn't seem to effect IQ at all. Everything else about the lens looked totally brand new. Go over things really carefully when it first arrives, make sure you're happy with it, but I don't have any qualms or anything negative really to say.
The lens I bought from KEH was listed as EX+ I think... for all I know it could've been new based on the condition it was in. |

Kind of on the same subject, anyone have experience with Amazon's Warehouse Deals program. I'm thinking of buying a lens that is listed under that program as in "Very good" condition, which has the following description for that rating:
Very Good: A well-cared-for camera or photography item that has seen limited use but remains in great condition. The item and its instructions are complete and undamaged, but may show some signs of wear. The item works perfectly. On the 1-10 point used-equipment scale, this must be rated 9-, 9, or 9+.

I'd shoot them an e-mail and ask about what point on the scale the glass goes from flawless to not flawless but not effecting image quality and then where it changes from not effecting image quality to effecting it. That seems to be the point that varies somewhat with used gear, and if you're like me, you care a lot more about a scratch (be it significant or not) on an element than a rub on the finish of the lens barrel. |

I dont mean to hijack but this is regarding Adorama's Customer Service.
I recently purchased some strobes with some strip boxes from Adorama. Everything came in order. Checked the order and the prodcuts because I was not familiar with them. I went to set up the Stripboxes and NO adapter ring! (My last purchase of lights came with the rings) So I went back on their website to find the appropriate ring. Couold not find it! Phoned the 1 800 line and waited forever. Redialed the 1 800 line this time asking for Customer Care. Automated response was "we are experiencing an unsusally hi call volume call back in a couple of hrs." and it hung up on me!
So a day or 2 passed and I finally called Westcott the manufacturer of the lights and they pointed me in the right direction for the ring. I could order it from Henrys here in Canada and no duty charges. Great! Phoned Henrys and they dont ship or order unless they have a min. of $1500 worth of product to order!
So on to Adorama's website and I finally find the item. $27.50 for for the item and $35!! to ship each item ( I need 2). So $55 for the parts and $70++ for duty to ship!!
I emailed customer care and stated that I was unhappy that it was not stated that the ring is not incl and I could have avoided extra shipping had I known at the beginning. I would have ordered them with my initial order.
She proceeds to say that they do not come with the item and then forwards me a quote for the price of the item and the shipping cost. ( Identical to what I see on the website)
I replied " Thank you for your help, but I email you regarding my discontent regarding the shipping cost and how it should be mentioned that the ring is an extra item and you send me a quote?!! Thanks but this is probably the last time I order from Adorama!
She replied that is just a quote and that I should talk to Sales. Ok. I called the 1 800 and spoke to someone in Sales and they said I should talk to the person that emailed me! So I tried again today and guess what..I waited no less than 10mins on the line and then finally said...
"FU! Adorama!!"
I found the item on Amazon and The shipping was only $15 as opposed to $75!!
This maybe an isolated incident but nonetheless, it could happen to anyone. :)

Wow that's pretty infuriating....
Not sure with their international stuff, but I've never had anything like that happen. You might consider contacting HelenOster about that. Pretty ridiculously aggravating, if you ask me... |

I bought a used Canon 1D mkIII from Adorama last fall. It was described as E+ condition. When it arrived, just from initial appearance, I would not have rated it higher than VG. I called customer service to remark (complain) about the condition of the camera and they just said that they checked it out when it came in and everything worked fine. I asked if they had gone over the camera and updated any firmware or software due to this unit having auto focus issues and they said they hadn't. I also asked if they could verify the shutter actuations, they couldn't. They just said "You have a 30 day return option with this camera. If it doesn't meet your expectations, send it back."
So buyer beware.
That being said, I sent it back and got a full refund.
