Hello NeatImage Users,

For noise reduction amount, do you choose 100% both for Luminance channel and Chrominance channels? The default is 60% for Luminance channel and 100% for Chrominance channels.

Please advise. Thank you.

I haven't used NeatImage in quite a while, but I can say that given what you are shooting with, you should not need to use aggressive NR settings. Remember that you can make a photo look too smooth. Skin will look plastic, fine detail in objects will just disappear. Not a pleasant result. Your best bet is to only apply just as much of each, Luminance and Chrominance, as required. Each image is different. I'd suggest starting with both sliders at zero, increase luminance gently and watch your noise and detail. Be conservative. Now increase chrominance as required. Readjust lumminance if needed, tweak to final values leaving some slight noise.
With modern cameras, you'll probably be using more luminance NR than chrominance. Another technique is to apply the NR only to the shadows, leaving detail in the mid-tones and highlights untouched.

I have used NI in the past but I am now using Topaz DeNoise (worth every penny I might add). With NI you have to just play with it to find the right level and each picture is a different ratio that you will use according to what you what to do with it. I still have NI and use it when I can't use my TDn (usually when my computer isn't playing nice).

If I remember if you hover your pointer over luminance/chrominance tabs it will tell you what each slider will do what +/- will do to the photo...

play with some of your older pictures and post them here...we'll let you know if it's to much or not enough, it's a great way to "test the market" per say

I've been using NI for about 4 years. I like the results, but I will say that you have to adjust the setting for each image on a case-by-case basis. Use the auto profile function to get things in the ballpark and then adjust to taste. Hover over the sliders for a pop-up description of each control. Lastly, make adjustments while viewing the image at 100%. Move around to various points of interest in the image to make sure the results are what you need. Too much sharpening in NI is usually not a good thing. There are other tools that handle sharpening better.
