I know I should have moved on from "design and engineering" by now, especially seeing I got my highest score in ages, but something made me go back and re-edit the photo. Now I'm thinking I like the colour version better.
I'm really curious to know whether it would have scored better than the black and white version I entered.

I like both, a lot, and I'd have given them both the same score.
However, if I had to choose one to hang on my wall I wopuld choose the colour one, which is rare for me as I tend to prefer b&w.
Don't think you made a mistake though, both are great versions.

I like B&W better. The color makes the clarity of the letters go away, and makes the whole shot look more cluttered. The B&W has a much more crisp look to it. |

Definitely Black and White. |

For "D&E" I think the B+W is better ... the darker areas look "used" and worn -- I think the color one might be better if the challenge was Old or Antiques or something like that. |

I like them both, but I think you made the right choice entering the B&W

I prefer the color version. The rust gives it a nice antique feel and adds a bit of warmth. |

I like the color version better. However it looks as if the "brushed", or "machined", texture of the silver gear wheels has been blown out a bit; and maybe it could use a tad more sharpening. Also, I like the larger size of the B&W one. |

I would have entered a larger size in colour too. I just submitted it slightly smaller not to use too much portfolio space (not that I'm short of it just yet, more a case of thinking about the future).

Both are good and for me it would have been a difficult decision too. Although in the color version the textures come through a little more. I like rust textures and you can really see that in the color one. |

I prefer the color version. More texture, more contrast, more interest. Generally has a more aged mood.

That's what comes of leaving entering until the last minute. I spent most of my time editing a different shot, then changed my mind on which to use and automatically went for black & white based on my preferences with the other photo. It was only when I saw what an awesome job had been done editing one of the other watch photos, that I decided to have another try on mine.

I prefer the color one. It has a rustboy.com feel to it that I'm really digging. I would put this picture in my house without hesitation. |

I'd be curious to see a third. How would that shot look in sepia duotone? I like the B&W but sometimes sepia really does something that B&W can't obtain.
Again, just curious.
Nice shot. |
