Is //www.dlldump.com a safe site to repair damaged or missing DLL files?
I am always leery of the FREE stuff. |

Can't blame you for quitting programming. DLLs were hell...
Good luck OP with repairing your DLLs btw, you'll need it - If you start to hit dependency or version issues, then start considering a reinstall of the operating system or app that's causing you problems. You can spend days messing with DLLs and OCXs and just end up going around in circles. |

What DLL file is missing? Is it a system file or a program file? A program file you can normally just reinstall the program or do a repair. A system file should be able to be repaired when prompted by the operating system by inserting your disc or pointing to a recovery drive if you have one.
Sometimes there are programs that require an older DLL file in order to work that is not installed by Windows in the newer versions. You can normally get these DLL packs from the Microsoft site or elsewhere. So, in all my years of being a Windows user (from the very first version and onward...Windows 1.0...yes, I'm getting old) I've never had to rely on a third party program to fix anything. I would try the other routes before downloading and using something like this as it's pretty unnecessary.

system32\rundll32.exe
When I try to remove a prog. in the add/remove I get message it can't find the dll file. and I can't close the window by clicking the window. I have to go to the bottom bar and close the window. |

OK, I tried this and, as always, a window "OPEN WITH" comes up and none of the selections looks appropriate and I am not able to close that window by clicking the X at the upper right. I can go to the bottom bar and close it that way * ....This same window comes up when I want to print an e-mail, however I CAN close it with the X and continue the print instructions as normal.
* At this time a screen comes up showing various screen savers and a message thanking me for downloading them. This also can only be closed with the bottom bar.
Let me mention, the cd/dvd and drive a do not work so I am not able to reload from scratch. I have had the drive problem with 3 dell's here. The first one I just threw away and bought a new one. The 2nd one quit same and was replaced with the current....same problem now with it. Thankfully, the one used for accounting NEVER goes on line and never has a problem. I can't believe all these drives have failed. Someone here must have opened bad mail. All machines were protected with Norton and use xp. Funny thing with xp, at home (another Dell with xp) I can do a ctrl f11 and do a complete restart and have a NEW fresh pc...on one of the ones at work, that doesn't work..Wonder why?
I am going to take a copy of rundll32exe saved on a memory stick and try to put it in the one at work that I an currently using.
Thanks for your input.. I'm about ready to chunk both of them and start fresh and use the Microsoft Security Essentials instead of the Norton junk.
