I knew my entry would be voted down but even I am surprised that it did as badly as this.

I only entered this challenge at the last moment and entered a photo I took before I had even seen the Edward Weston challenge. The photo was taken whilst I was on holiday and I did not even know about the Edward Weston challenge yet. So when I saw the challenge I just entered one of my holiday shots that I thought would be the closest thing to Weston's style and converted it to B&W. It really isn't at all Weston's style, it's more my own style ha ha ha...anyway...
It was a shot of the moment kind of shot. Had a few too many with the bloke sitting at the bar and so did he so the blur which was caused by a 1 second hand held exposure is quite fitting really and for me at least makes the image memorable and captures the reality of the moment.

I think you've summed up what this shot is... a snap shot. Weston's work by necessity of what he was working with, is very purposely crafted.

FWIW Fred, I like the photo, it has a lot going for it but I suspect, as you do, that it is not a Weston 'shot'

Hmmm...maybe the blur works for you, but for me, I'm really loving the details of the pic, so the blur completley ruins that for me. I would love to see this nice and sharp and clear. I would have scored much higher for that, I can see the potential of the shot.

As a general rule of thumb, I have read that you should only hand hold a shutter speed no slower than 1/focal length... so for a 50 mm lens, you can hand hold 1/50, but 1/40 and lower should be on a tripod or mono-pod or a bean bag or at the very least use a post for added stability.

All that has changed with VR, OS and IS now available in lenses. Now you need to discern how slow the shutter speed can go by the object your are shooting eg portrait, moving subject, etc.

I did not recognize it as of one of your shots or inspired by Weston. You might have gotten you personal worst score.
Did you like it so much that you inquire about the score? Does it count a lot for you?
