is there an easier way to tidy up in photoshop with layers?
i spend my life trying to get rid of all the speckles.

Not sure what you are asking?

Are you refering to high ISO noise (ie 400 iso)?
Or just dust and scratches?

PS has a noise-dust/scratches filter to remove these.

With high ISO you may want to look for a specific action for your camera model or etc.

I find that quite often, the worst dust shows up in the very darkest parts of an image, particularly with scanned photos (shouldn't be an issue here :)...). I use "color range" which is a function under the selection menu that allows you to select areas of color much like you'd select them with the magic wand tool, but this function selects ALL the pixels of the selected color all at once!

Then, I run-- as Calvus suggested -- the dust & scratches filter.

The benefit of selecting just the most troubled areas is that you can use a much more aggressive setting for D&S without getting muddy midtone & highlight detail.

okay thanks, i use photoshop for superimposing photos & images for
fine art, then print them out on canvas, so the method is very different.
