There is absolutely no mention in the challenge description about horizons, or natural looking scenes, etc... NONE. When you go submit the image, all it says is "Capture an image of the Extreme Supermoon coming March 19th"... no extras under the special rules either, just "expert editing" blurb. Which means you can pretty much capture the Moon any way you wish...
My question is, why are there few individuals who know "the details" of the intention, but it was never stated for others in the description... |

I probably opened my mind too much for this one... so, voters beware :P |

Geez! There are at least two things not controlled by the person who suggests a challenge.
1) The specifics of the challenge, including the rule set.
2) Individual interpretations. |

The challenge suggestion was made in this thread, "Extreme Supermoon near Earth" The OP was me. So, I do remember what I suggested. I would have preferred Advanced Editing, rather than Expert Editing, because this is a photography site. Of course, the Admin and SC set it up... taking all interests into consideration. I'm delighted attention was paid to this significant astronomy event. It's a difficult challenge and serious efforts at photography should be rewarded for the extra effort required.
I have an open mind. I don't think I'm narrow minded. I'll judge each image on its merits, as I do in every challenge. I don't have a preconceived notion as to what I will score high or low. I hope that other voters do the same. |
Sorry, but when you originally posted about how you will vote, I misunderstood the way you put it. It really pains me when I come across this kind of opportunity and then you hear people really narrow it down to a nieche type of shot. It just closes a lot of options down. I do appreciate all the effort that goes into each and every shot of so many wonderful photographers on this site.
And by the way, I didn't call YOU narrow minded. I worded it very carefully. It was not an attack on you personally, just on the interpretation or description of the challenge you suggested. I really want to encourage creativity and free thinking for all of us here. It's the only way to learn new ways of "seeing". |

Those aren't shots, they're photo collages - graphic art assemblies so to speak. |

Sorry, I'm a simpleton. What I meant to say was that there are some cool looking pictures coming from the magic box on my desk. Good job to the gods who put them there. |

Great job guys! I couldn't get a moon shot, thick grey clouds all weekend. But I really enjoyed seeing all of yours. I loved both the creative ones and the classic moon shots. |

I highly enjoyed both the expert and non expert editing versions in this challenge.
While I understand some people's wish that this was an advanced editing challenge, the expert editing challenges are so few and far between. I appreciate that they are the "special" challenges -- not the regular challenges each week. It doesn't take anything away from me, and also gives me the opportunity to try it, if I so desire. And it's fun to be amazed at what people can do.
Besides that -- since the vast majority of the challenges are "photography" vs "graphic arts" challenges, I do think it would be remiss to completely ignore the graphic arts side. Knowledge is power, people! It doesn't hurt (too much) to experience everything!

YES, this is an old thread....but Sunday is a NEW SUPERMOON!!!!
Curious how many are going to give shooting this a go? I'm not much of a MOON photographer, so I'm thrilled it will be 6:00 a.m. where I am for perigee. :)
Any suggesions? And for anyone not sure what the heck I'm talking about, here is a link! :) Better articles, but can't find the original one I read, lol.
NOT A CHALLENGE, BUT AN OPPORTUNITY.
