I'm in, for better or for worse :-)

I have an "insurance" shot, which could be entered, subject to results from subsequent efforts. Hazy, thin overcast is not helping.

Exactly - I did the same and an image of a mom with 2-3 pairs of hands comes to my mind

Too much. Try to shoot through that with a T-mount adapter and you'll only get a piece of the moon. On your camera, something like 600 or 700mm will fill the frame.

Was the Earth destroyed by the Extreme Supermoon? Are we all in an Extreme Superdream now?

If you have a motor mount its pretty easy to set it to track the moon, but frankly the resulting images of a small piece of lunar real estate make pretty dull images unless you can get an impact shot or the like. On the other hand if you can train it across the valley into neighbour's windows......nevermind.

Please keep me company and make it exteme! Thanks!

ETA: Although I must say, not quite as extreme as I was contemplating at one point. Maybe I'll share that one later in the outtake thread, if only to find out what the reaction to it might have been.

ETA: I guess it's not a "takeout" thread after all!! Robert's giving me a hard time over that slip up. LOL!

Expert editing is a turn off for many... I don't think I will be renting 400mm to take photo of the moon for this challenge. If I find some good view, I use my 135mm and enhance the hell out of it (more than I usually do), add a few more things to make it look interesting.

The original concept of this challenge was to capture a natural looking image of the Extreme Super Moon close to earth. I think it is exceptionally difficult to capture a full moon in the context of landscape within the rule boundaries of Advanced Editing. So, Expert Editing opens the door to solving the wide exposure difference between the moon (a sun reflector) and a landscape at twilight. The challenge was NEVER intended to be an effort in fantasy collage. I can only speak for myself, but my photography will stay true to the original intent of the challenge suggestion and will vote in a similar manner.

In non-threatening way, I'd like to ask you why would you close your mind to other possibilities. The challenge doesn't say you have to "capture a natural looking image of the Extreme Super Moon close to earth" as you put it. All the challenge description says is "Capture an image of the Extreme Supermoon coming March 19th". That's all. I think that when you take such a narrow view of the challenge, you miss on a lot of creative stuff. Why not have fun with it and create something wonderful with advance editing. I am not talking about cheesy "paste on" collages, but there is so much you can do other than just shoot a straight image of the Moon close the Earth.

Why would you put such limitations on a this kind of challenge? Just wondering. Open your mind and you'll discover there is much more to learn and create. DPC Challenge site should encourage creativity, not discourage it with statements like "this challenge was NEVER intended to be...." that is just your interpretation... How do you know what the original intent was? Why vote others down for their creativity?? I just wonder why a creative person like you would be so stern in this type situation and not allow himself to at least consider other options...

timmi, no disrespect, but it was Richard who suggested the challenge in the first place. So I'm pretty sure he does know the original intent.

Then why wasn't it stated in the challenge description in such way? Not everyone reads every thread on this site. And if it was mean to be a "natural" challenge, why do it under "master editing". Master editing offers such creativity and opens up the space for multiple images, exposures, etc... Why wasn't it made clear that it was intended to be fairly straight forward interpretation of a scene...

And just because it was Richard who suggested the challenge, it doesn't necessarily mean that 100 other photographers will interpret it in "his" way without having the hint in the description of the challenge...

The challenge suggestion was made in this thread, "Extreme Supermoon near Earth" The OP was me. So, I do remember what I suggested. I would have preferred Advanced Editing, rather than Expert Editing, because this is a photography site. Of course, the Admin and SC set it up... taking all interests into consideration. I'm delighted attention was paid to this significant astronomy event. It's a difficult challenge and serious efforts at photography should be rewarded for the extra effort required.

I have an open mind. I don't think I'm narrow minded. I'll judge each image on its merits, as I do in every challenge. I don't have a preconceived notion as to what I will score high or low. I hope that other voters do the same.
